I am sure 100%. Take a look at his ribbon bar. Besides, he is wearing the Verwundetenabzeichen (Marine) below the EK 1. And his goatee, of course!Kriegsmarine Großadmiral wrote: ↑14 Oct 2018, 18:33Hmm. It could be Bettenhäuser, but before he was promoted to Charakter als Vizeadmiral (Ing.), so the photo should have been taken between 01 October 1936 and 31 December 1939. At this time period he was Commander of the Naval-School Kiel (30 Sep 1931-26 Nov 1939).
Can anyone confirm if the photo was taken at that place?
Gregg, are you 100% sure it is Bettenhäuser?

Re: Request for Identification of Generals and Admirals
If you say you are 100% sure then I believe you. If the photo was better quality we could look at his patch above the rank stripes: if it is a star then it couldn't be Bettenhäuser because he was an (Ing.), but if it is the little wheel then it would confirm it is Bettenhäuser.
But never mind that, I agree with you that it is Bettenhäuser (like you said, the ribbon bar is pretty small since Bettenhäuser had only 4 medals on his medal bar + the Verwundetenabzeichen (Marine), it was hard to ID this award because of the low quality, it could also look like the Kolonialabzeichen).
Now, only the Vizeadmiral left is unknown.

Hi,
I agree with Gregg - the medals match, the goatee matches, and the building in the background bears a strong resemblance to the pictures available online of the Kiel Naval School.
Best regards,
VJK

What about Vizeadmiral (Ing.) Hans Fechter? As Inspekteur der Schiffsmaschineninspektion, he was Bettenhäuser's superior.

I thought about Fechter too. But after looking at the photos of Fechter I personally don't think it is him.
But I may be wrong.

Re: Request for Identification of Generals and Admirals
@43: 1 Dönitz, 2 Wilhelm Meendsen-Bohlken, 3 ??? (I have five other photos featuring this Konteradmiral and I still don't know who he is), 4 Even though it can't be seen for sure, I am pretty sure this is Bernhard Rogge
@44: Is this Heinz-Eduard Menche with Wilhelm Marschall?
@45: Who is this admiral on the left?
@46: Who is this admiral on the left? (the same admiral from photo 45?)
I think photos 45 and 46 show the same admiral.

Thanks Gregg!
I think for @44 you meant with Wilhelm Marschall.

Friedrich Volckamer von Kirchensittenbach.

Re: Request for Identification of Generals and Admirals
@8: unknown Luftwaffe General. I am asking myself if it could be Bernhard Waber. He owns no EK1 which would be a clue for a former Austrian. And he is wearing two ribbon bars, as Waber did. EK2 with Wiederholungsspange would fit too for Waber.
