The document itself is dated 17.3.1944. The photo's were probably stolen earlier, also developed and distributed by the Germans. So the actual date of the photo can be way earlier.

Hello
Found 414 in Hans Sakkers book page 102 - "12.3.1944 Wissant"
415 and 416 must both be: "8.3.1944 Bretagne, Strand von Lannilis"
417 must be in Belgium, but dated before 17.3.1944 most likely december 1943 - place still unknown.

414 and 415 I have not seen before with an exact location.
416 is in Hans Sakkers book about Rommel at page 96 with the caption: "8.3.1944 Bretagne, Strand von Lannilis" Mentioned officers in this photo could be: Generalleutnant Karl Spang / 226 I.D. and maybe Generalleutnant Richard Schimpf / 3 Fallsch. Jg. Div. and Viceadmiral Ruge is there also. General d. Infanterie Straube is also mentioned - but I can only ID Rommel and Ruge.
417 no idea - yet![]()

Hello
Any one for date and location and persons in this photo?
We have had it for Denmark, but I am not sure about that.
Rommel is wearing his leather coat, when did he begin to wear that?
The first pictures I have seen of Rommel with the leather coat is from Wissant 3. february 1944.
Best regards
Kurt

Re: Rommel - inspecting the Atlantikwall.
Hello again
Regarding #424 it has been established that the officer in the middle (back) is Generalleutnant Horst Freiherr von Uckermann.
http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/Per ... tFrhrv.htm
The younger officer in front is his aide / Adjutant, all the other officers are marine officers, and that indicates that we are back in Denmark, and it might be in the entrance to a Marine establishment in the southwest of Denmark.
Correct location has still to be determined
Best regards
Kurt

Re: Rommel - inspecting the Atlantikwall.
Rommel inspecting the defences on the beach of Saint-Efflam, in Plestin-les-Grèves
(France, Brittany, AOK 7, KVA A2, KVG Morlaix), together with Gen. Straube and Spang, among others.

Unless I am mistaken, I did not find in F. Ruge's book, Rommel und die Invasion, mention of the stop which Rommel carried out in this place during one of his inspections on the northern coast of Brittany. I don’t know if it is a mistake or an oversight on F. Ruge's part. Anyway, all the pics displayed here were taken in the same place, close to a hotel that was then occupied by the German army, and located between army positions Mo 41 and Mo 42.
Explanations:

Now

Then

Comparisons

Look behind Ruge's head

The coastline in the background is always the same

The big woodden obstacle is the same
The second pic may have been taken a bit before Rommel's visit, as it looks still under comstruction.

Overall view today
