Post by Jan-Hendrik » 07 Mar 2009 13:51

According to this Bio v.Stiotta was Armee-Pionierführer at the Oderfont. But of which Armee?

He is not listed by Keilig, what was the promotion date for him for Generalmajor?

Hi J-H,
Marcel Stein's book on Austrian Generals in the German Army has him as Generalmajor
Max Stiotta Edler von Hockenjos.
Promoted Lt in 1907
According to Stein he was promoted GM a few weeks before the surrender (page 273).
Incidentally 1944-45 Rangliste has a Stiotta promoted Obstlt 1/4/42(1072), peacetime unit Festungs-Pionier-Stab 26.

Here's a link to an post war investigation of Gen.Lt. Rudolf Schmetzer, Insp. d. Landbefestigungen West. He controlled v Stiotta's FestPiKdr XIX under AOK7 and FestPiKdr XVIII under AOK 15 -- does anyone know who was the commander of the latter?

There a re quite a few pictures of v. Stiotta floating around. I don't think the pic from ww2awards.com was him though as he had a very prominent clefted chin.

Cheers
Freiherr

Whether promoted to GM or not, if Stiotta was Armeepionierführer 9 and became a Soviet PoW, I presume this must have happened in the Kessel of Halbe?
Er ist wieder da. Aber auch dieses Mal wird er nicht siegen!
