What class is the Cavaliere di Gran Croce dell’Ordine della Corona d’Italia in german? Großofizierskreuz or Großkreuz?
Thanks.

Cavaliere di Gran Croce dell’Ordine della Corona d’Italia = Grand Cross BUT the Soldbuch above lists the Commander Cross in both 1937 and 1939. It may have been recorded incorrectly, or one of them should possibly be the Spanish Naval Merit Order, which can be seen on the ribbon bar. It would appear these awards were all written into the book and signed on the same day (one signature and stamp for all).

If the 1939 award is also the Italian Order of the Crown then it should be the Grand Officer's Cross since he already had the Commander's Cross since 1937.
But, as you say it is most likely an error.

I looked at his Soldbuch once again and I think we got the classes of the Orden der Krone von Italien wrong. I think the one awarded on 29. 09. 1937 should be an Offizierskreuz and the one awarded on 19. 01. 1939 the Komturkreuz.

The reason is his rank at the time he got these orders. On 29. 09. 1937 his rank was Korvettenkapitän, too low a rank to get the Komturkreuz. Besides, the two awards listed above and below the Orden der Krone von Italien (Bulgarischer St. Alexander-Orden and Ungarischer Verdienstorden) are both the Offizierskreuz class.

The same goes for the 19. 01. 1939 award. At this time he was still a Korvettenkapitän (Fregattenkapitän on 01. 11. 1939), but if he indeed got the Orden der Krone von Italien twice, then this second one should be a Komturkreuz. No way did he get the Großoffizierskreuz as a Korvettenkapitän.

Pierce mentioned that one of these entries could be the Spanish Naval Merit Order. But it's not. He got the Königlich Spanischer Orden für Verdienste zur See I. Klasse mit Weiß Verliehen on 16. 11. 1928.

Please, Pierce, Thierry and Gregg, share your opinions.

This does seem logical, given his rank at the time of receiving the Italian awards.

Also, from looking over the awards listed in this thread, I see the Anschluss Medal has not been mentioned. I believe he was a recipient.

I think this page of the Soldbuch is not completely reliable as it does not list all decorations received in the time period the written lists covers (1919-1939). For example, 1918 Navy Wound Badge, Silesian Eagle, Baltic Cross, or the Spanish Naval Merit Order in 1928. Maybe there is another page with the awards listed, usually they are on the bottom right of a page near the front.....but perhaps I am thinking of the Wehrpass.

It's like you read my mind Pierce! I just wanted to ask your help regarding his ribbon and medal bar. See below.

Image
Ribbon bar:
- Eisernes Kreuz (1914) 2. Klasse
- Ehrenkreuz des Weltkrieges 1914/1918 mit Schwertern für Frontkämpfer
- Schlesischer Adler-Orden 2. Stufe
- Wehrmacht Dienstauszeichnung II. Klasse
- Wehrmacht Dienstauszeichnung IV. Klasse
- Baltenkreuz
- ???

Could the last ribbon be the Medaille zur Erinnerung an den 13. März 1938 (Anschluss Medal)?

- Offizierskreuz des Königlich Bulgarischen St. Alexander-Ordens

I can't see the Orden der Krone von Italien anywhere. The unknown medal looks a lot like the Portugese Order of Aviz. What do you think?

Chest:
- Marineverwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz
- Baltenkreuz
- Offizierskreuz des Königlich Ungarischen Verdienstordens

We are on the same page for I was just about to post those images. This is where I see the Anschluss Medal. Also, I too am seeing the Portuguese Order of Aviz on the medal bar, or something just as distinctive as that cross. NO 1936 Italian Order of the Crown pictured and he does seem to be wearing everything else.....perhaps the above Soldbuch entry is referring to this Portuguese Order in 1936 and he only received the Commander Cross of the Italian Order of the Crown in 1939?

I would even suggest that the green ribbon on the ribbon bar is NOT for the Hungarian Merit Order, but for the Aviz Order, given it would then be a match for the medal bar in wear.

That's also possible. But it would be a huge mistake to confuse the Order of Aviz for the Order of the Italian Crown (in the Soldbuch I mean). Perhaps he was indeed awarded the Order of the Italian Crown twice, but didn't wear it on this photo? Or the Order of Aviz is simply written on another page like the rest of the awards you mentioned? In any case, I wouldn't use the date for the first Order of the Italian Crown (29. 09. 1937) for the Order of Aviz. We simply don't have enough information.

Regarding the class of the Order of Aviz, would you say it's a Ritterkreuz or Offizierskreuz? The Offizierskreuz had a rosette on the ribbon. Some photos below.
