Topic splitted off from the "Poland 1939 KIA officers" sticky.

I have one question in addition : Ludwig Streil to my knowledge was the only soldier who received both the KC in WW2 and the Bavarian Golden Medal for Bravery in WW1.
Does anyone happen to know the award date for the latter ?

Thanks Shawn,
the colleague who asks me that has the "Ehrenbuch", too, but is desperately looking for a specific award date. The Urkunde for the Goldene Tapferkeitsmedaille has a date in general ; for Streil not yet known/seen.

Horatio2,
the basics for a start. Streil, a bavarian soldier, serving in both World Wars, with the most classical and prestigious bavarian units - Infanterie-Leib-Regiment, NCO (WW1) , WW2: 7. Infanterie-Division, officer [Münchener Haus-Division]. Born: 21.01.1893 Zusam(s)zell/Wertingen/Schwaben , KIA: 17.05.1940 at Canal le Charleroi south-west of Brüssel/Belgium , Kdr. Inf.Rgt. 61. KC posthumously 30.06.1941 .
Can you share more detailed info about his Slovakian Bravery Medal ?

Hi to all those interested in Oberstleutnant Ludwig Streil,
I am new to this kind of forum and will probably make mistakes. So, please excuse me while I try to navigate around here.
I would like to get in touch with Horatio2 and Bernd R if they are still interested in knowing more about Ludwig Streil.
I have his biography written by his son and published privately. It contains much of the information they are looking for.
One piece of information I would also like to know from Horatio2 is details about the Slovakian Medal of Bravery which Ludwig Streil is supposed to have received. I have no documentation of this award among my research material.
Bernd: I have copies of the Verleihungsurkunden of the
"Goldene Militär-Verdienst Medaille" (Awarded: 1. Dez 1914)
"Goldene Tapferkeits-Medaille" (Awarded: 25. Juli 1918)
"Das Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes ( Awarded: 30. Juni 1941)
as well as number of other awards he received.
I hope both of you are still involved with this forum and will try and contact me for more info.
All the best,
Alvin

Hello Dieter,
Thank you for your welcome to the community. It is too bad that Bernd is no longer involved here.
I have written to Horatio in the hopes he will contact me with his information.
I have put out feelers to various agencies such as the Bayrisches Staatsarchiv in München, as well as Ludwig Streil's immediate family to gather more info for the biography I am hoping to write about this fascinating soldier for Wikipedia.
I would be glad to be of service for anyone wishing more information about Oberstleutnant Ludwig Streil.
All the best,
Alvin

For those interested. I am currently working on collecting the information as well as translating many documents with the result of hopefully a concise biography and outline of Ludwig Streil's military career.
Thanks for your patience.

Thank you Stunkel for posting the photographs of Ludwig Streil's graves. I have not ever seen the photos of his 1st grave. This first grave was apparently located on the grounds of Chateau d'Ittre and later his remains were moved to the large German Cemetery at Lommel. I will be visiting both locations in May 2017 and hope to have more information regarding his life by that time as well. I have contacted the archives of the "Deutsche Dienststelle (WASt) für die Benachrichtigung der nächsten Angehörigen von Gefallenen der ehemaligen deutschen Wehrmacht",in Berlin and hope to be receiving all the information they have before too long.
I will update this page when I have collected more information. I am also still trying to reach Horatio 2 , but have met with no success.
Anyone that has further information concerning Ludwig Streil would be welcome to share it here. Thanks.
