Death of Fritz Bracht

Does anyone have a date, or know the circumstances of Gauleiter Fritz Brachts death.

I have read that he committed suicide in May 1945 'to avoid trial' and another source claims he was killed by a Jewish Vengeance squad as late as 1949.

According to Karl Hoffkes "Die Gauleiter des Dritten reiches" Fritz Bracht committed suicide May 1945 but details are unclear
