This could narrow down it a bit.

Looks like that famous Paderborn newsreel in Sept 44 when 3/ and 1/SchwPzAbtl 503 were strutting their stuff with the new Tigers

Lt Richard FrHr v Rosen was the commander.

Cheers
Freiherr

I agree , too .

But von Rosen received his DKiG in 1945 . Could it be Heinz Rohndorf / 3.Kp sPzAbt. 503 ? According to my list of decorated members of 503 he would be the only oerson that "fits" for this timespace . Heinz Gärtner or Kurt Knispel I could sort out ...

Having sent this picture a little bit "around" the answer is :

DKiG-Träger Uffz. Kurt Knispel ( I was so blind that I did not recocknized him looking so "civilized" ..)

Yes, you can be sure thatb this picture was took in Normandie. I have all the reportage. This picture had been took between 17 and 22 June 1944, east from Caen. The Offz. belongs to the I./Pz.Rgt. 22.
Bests regards

I already posted my oppinion on this man here,
http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... start=1125
but Daniel believed it isn't Buchner, because it was claimed before that this man belonged to Nebelwerfer unit.

He still looks to me like Buchner, but this fact bothers me:
both men are SS-Sturmbannführers.
Buchner was promoted to this rank on 29. VII 1944
and was decorated with RK on 16. VI 1944, as SS-Hstuf.
So if "wanted" man is Buchner he should probably be wearing his RK...
But other decorations match and so does the face.

Any other ideas...?

Cheers,
Ivan
