Rommel and a group of his officers, France, 1940. This photograph was taken with Rommel’s own camera. First row, left to right: 2nd Lieutenant Loh, 1st Lieutenant Seibold, Rommel, Lieutenant Colonel Sieckenius. Second row, left to right: Lieutenant Deichbaum and Lieutenant Karl Hanke. Siebold was a communications expert. Rommel arranged for him to be transferred to North Africa, where he did a brilliant job as commander of Rommel’s Wireless Intercept Service. He was promoted to captain before he was killed in action in the 1st Battle of El Alamein.
