it turned out that a size of maximum 400 Pixel breadth X 500-650 Pixel height [depends on pic] is enough. In more simple words we should try to achieve a "viewing without scrolling".

The "addition" method is a good one in my point of view. It's ok for everyone I hope and it works I think. Basically I will try to merge posts for one and the same person. This will create postings (entries) with input from two or even three members (pic, text, and source will be transfered entirely as they are ; "by member xy" will be kept, too, of course). This will also show the common effort and potentially produce a fascinating mix.

Here is an example how a merged entry would look like :

The "generals department", or better to say one of the experts on generals of the forum, our colleague VJK started with a classic, chris44 had two additions, I found a shot with the Blood Order finally.
This one entry now has : Oberst rank, generals rank, b/w and color, autograph, with the Blutorden as a special / for completion.
These 4 pics should be quite ok as a reference for Gen. Block ; enough, too.

As a consequence of the merging the initial posting by VJK was deleted. The entry now "labels" as a post of chris44, with the post by VJK organized as the starting post (includes the/his text). If there is no objection I will go on similar to that with further mergings in order to have one entry per person at the end.

Of note : ..by chance, the size / layout of the four pics is quite the same ! Doesn't look that bad.
