1.7.44 Kdr. Pz.Rgt. 9
8.9.44 FR OKH
10.10.44 Kdr. Pz.Rgt. 27

Nothing about being Fhr. of 11. or 13. Pz.Div. on his Karteikarte

Being in Führerreserve in September 1944 it seems he leads a Rgts.Gruppe of 8. Pz.Div.
On 20th July he was sentenced to Death by Divisionsgericht 359. Inf.Div.: Ungehorsam ( he denied an attack on Iwaczow on 17th/18th July, retreated and informed his command that he lacks ammo. The attack was a desaster. Mellenthin was much angry and took him to the court, but Raus denied to sign the verdict.)

It should be 'Marine-Brigade von Roden'. See http://www.axishistory.com/index.php?id=6255

Hello,

I believe I may have met him on holiday in Bavaria in 1977. I was 16. He was with a man I knew called Thedel von Cramm who introduced him "Colonel von Hake, my commander during the War" (ie WW2).

Col. von Hake told me that he had served under Lettow-Vorbeck in German East Africa during WW1.

Hello to all of you,

it seems that Friedrich von Hake was possibly two times sentenced to death by a military court.
In the book "Die Familie der Generäle" von Joachim Käppner about the family-clan von Butler, the later Bundeswehrgeneral Peter von Butler said, that he had taken over the command of Panzerregiment 27 in early
1945 after his dismissal from the Operations Department of the OKH.
On the Pages 195-197 Butler told the Story, that his predecessor von Hake and PzReg 27 had in January 1945 conducted an counterattack eastside of the river Warthe, destroyed up to 50 Soviet Tanks but had to retreat later under heavy losses.
Ferdinand Schörner blamed von Hake as a coward and critized his unambitious orders. A military court sentenced von Hake to death.
But Schörner also ordered von Butler to cross-check the final sentence of the court. So von Butler, who had done this work during nighttime in his command tank, found out from the files and his talks with soldiers of the regiment, that von Hake had waited on orders while his regiment was attacked by heavy artillery fire. Without concrete orders the Regiment decided to attack, but was repelled.
In the hard fights of PzReg 27 in March 1945 in the area of Schweidnitz two parked Panther tanks were destroyed including von Butlers command tank with all the relevant files of the von Hake trial. In the upcoming days von Butler were able to got a Phone call with Schörner and pleaded to withdraw the unfair death sentence. Suprisingly Schörner followed von Butlers advice.

Unfortunately I have no additional information on this case regarding official documents or something like that, but maybe some of you have heard of this issue and will be able to deliver further information.

Best regards
Robert.
