Re: Generalleutnant Paul Gurran
From KTB XXXXIII.
(22 Jan 1944; 18,30 Uhr)

Re: Generalleutnant Paul Gurran
Bradley listed Gurran as nachträglich befördert.
Paul Gurran
* 11.01.1893
+ 22.04.1944
23.03.1944 Generalleutnant mit RDA vom 01.02.1944 (nachträglich)
Maybe
00.00.19__ Generalleutnant mit RDA vom 01.04.1944 (nachträglich)
Does anyone have ANY information on this officer?
Regards,
Aisin

Re: Generalleutnant Paul Gurran
Gurran died in febr. 44 (so GL. m. RDA 2.44 is correct)
Re: Generalleutnant Paul Gurran
Do we have any official sources on Gurran's death? The date of 22 April sometimes given is obviously wrong, but do we have the real date?
I found only this:
I found only this:
There are times in history when staying neutral means taking sides.
Generalmajor Paul Gurran (1893-1944)
This affair gets more and more interesting. Not only Gurran's date and place of death are in question, I wonder what he was doing when he died?
On 22 January 1944, Gurran and Horst von Mellenthin swapped the command of their divisions, so Gurran was now mstFb 205. ID (see KTB XXXXIII. Armeekorps). This was evidently done in distrust of Gurran whose division was under severe attack while 205. ID was not. Obviously, Karl von Oven requested a new commander for 23. ID., and when Walter Chales de Beaulieu arrived on 22 February, Mellenthin returned to his old division. No word of Gurran! He should have been placed in the FR now, but if so, how did he die? Why was his death announced as late as 8 April? On Majewo as place of death, this could fit if he was killed or mortally wounded in February, but I assume the town was in Soviet hands by April. Some sources say he was killed in a Soviet air raid.
Any info or input is welcome!
P.S. I don't believe the conspiracy theories voiced on some websites, allegedly originating from family circles, that Gurran was secretly killed by the Nazis. Gurran had no surviving descendants as his wife killed herself and their children in 1945.

Well, I found this. Note that he is not listed as "gefallen" and the FR as his last Dienststellung.

Bravo Askropp
This confirms my info above (febr. 44)
I too checked my sources and in both the Geschichte des IR 9 (or der 23.ID) as well as in the book Ritterkreuzträger the date of his death is 21.2

Re: Generalleutnant Paul Gurran
Does anyone possess more info about his awards than ABR?
