Hello Dieter
Pls. confirm that the general in photo is really Mantell (why is it written on it "von Manteuffel ?" ? Is he maybe G. v. Manteuffel ?)
If Mantell, can You pls. kindly post it without the inscription "von Manteuffel ?" on it, and if possible post the photo of G. v. Manteuffel too ?
Many thanks in advance, Rossano

The post with this pic was [in a mistakable manner] posted so in
http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... start=5940
and the concerning inscription on the reverse is on the next page. So there is no doubt!
I don't have another pic!

According to DAL 1941 and 1942, Mantell was an active officer at the time:

Generalmajor mit RDA vom 01.10.1940 (10)

I think he was activated with his promotion to GM.

He was an Oberst (E) with RDA 01.04.1932 (7) and his last pre-war appointment was Ausb. Leiter (Art) Breslau according to DAL B for May 1940

Hi, is he really promoted to Generalleutnant? Because on Oberstab's bio there's no info about it. BTW, his full name is: Hermann "Harry" Erhard Johannes Mantell. Here is his picture as a civilian in 1938 from https://www.geni.com/people/Harry-Mante ... 0300813939 :

1.10.42 GL. z.V.
Both photos above hardly match (my opinion). In the first photo he looks quite different and much older, but after about 4 years only (1938 to maybe about 1942) he can´t be changed so much or am I wrong ? Your opinion ?

Bonjour,

If Dieter's bio is correct, Mantell did not start his military career in FAR 6 but in FAR 42.
