Oberst Klemm, Gren.Rgt. 1034
Hello,
I am studying a hard fighting of the 59. Inf.Div. in the area of Lille - 4 and 5 september 1944. Particularly with the Gren.Rgt. 1034 which was commanded by Oberst Klemm. I get the MStudies. Do you know if it exists a bibliography of him somewhere. I don't dare thinking a pic of him.
Thanks in advance to help me.
Sincerely yours
Didier

Re: Oberst Klemm
Bonjour,
This is what I have about Georg Klemm : Pionier-Offizier in WWI, he joined the Police in 1923 then back to the Heer on 15.10.35 as Major and Chef 2.Kp./Pi.Btl.2. He was Kdr. Pi.Btl. 13 from 12.10.1937 until end 07.1941. But sorrowly I have nothing about his assignments between this date and 1944 as Kdr. GR 1034. Promoted Obstlt. on 01.04.1938 then Oberst on 01.04.1941.
Hope that's help
Best
Rudolf

Re: Oberst Klemm
It's very kind to you to answer me so fast and did what you can. We have a gig hole about his career. I know, it's not so simply.
Could we be sure that he's the same that commanded the Gren.Rgt. 1034?
Talk soon

Re: Oberst Klemm, Gren.Rgt. 1034
Different Klemm:
I don't have a lot of details, but:
Klemm, Günther Friedrich Wilhelm August, *8. April 1895 in Merseburg.
- 08.08.14 i.d. IR 82 eingetreten, im Felde mit Feldbtl. 57 bzw. I./RIR 252, 22.5.15 Lt., 3.5.20 entlassen.
- 1920 - 35 Polizei (28.07.20 Pol.OLt., 01.04.23 Pol.Hptm., 01.01.34 Pol.Maj.)
- 15.10.35 als Maj. i.d. Heer überwiesen, 01.10.38 OTL, 01.09.41 Oberst
- Kdr. I./IR 314, Kdr. IR 676, Kdr. GR 1034
Eisernes Kreuz 2.Klasse (25.02.15)
Eisernes Kreuz 1.Klasse (27.01.17)
Fürstl. Schwarzburgisches Ehrenkreuz 3. Kl. mit Schwertern (04.11.16)
Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz
Ehrenkreuz für Frontkämpfer
Wehrmacht (Heer) Dienstauszeichnung 4. bis 2. Kl. (02.10.36)
1939 Spange zum Eisernen Kreuz 2. Klasse (27.06.40)
1939 Spange zum Eisernen Kreuz 1. Klasse (14.06.43)
Kriegsverdienstkreuz 2. Kl. mit Schwertern (20.08.42)
Given the family resemblance, and the fact that both were in IR 82 and RIR 252, I am pretty sure Günther was the brother of Generalmajor Kuno Klemm. Most of the other Klemms in the Wehrmacht were Saxons.
Rudolf, regarding Georg Klemm, here is what I can add:
Klemm, Georg Heinrich Ernst, *14. Dezember 1891 in Dresden.
- 28.02.13 i.d. PB 12 eingetreten, 21.05.14 Lt. (mit Pat. v. 23.06.12), 02.08.17 OLt., 03.09.20 mit Char. als Hptm. verabschiedet.
- served in WW1 with PB 12 and in various Minenwerfer-Kompanien and other pioneer units
Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse (17.02.15)
Eisernes Kreuz 1. Klasse (13.12.17)
Kgl. sächs. Albrechtsorden, Ritterkreuz 2. Kl. mit Schwertern (18.02.16)
Kgl. sächs. Verdienstorden, Ritterkreuz 2. Kl. mit Schwertern (22.08.16)
Ehrenkreuz für Frontkämpfer
Wehrmacht (Heer) Dienstauszeichnung 4. bis 2. Kl. (02.10.36)
1939 Spange zum Eisernen Kreuz 2. Klasse (26.09.39)
1939 Spange zum Eisernen Kreuz 1. Klasse (26.10.39)
Medaille zur Erinnerung an den 1. Oktober 1938 mit Spange "Prager Burg" (27.01.40)
Medaille "Winterschlacht im Osten 1941/42" (ohne Datum)

Didier,
You are quite welcome, and thank you for the credit. My source was the microfilm copy of his personnel file in the US National Archives. You may be able to find the original file in Freiburg, which could give you a better quality photo.

In the first link is wronly stated "Pi.Btl. 31" (correct is "13", 1940/41 in the 14. PD)
in the second link is (wrongly ?) stated that he commanded GR 312 from 1942. I have him commanding such Rgt. in 1943 only.

Re: Oberst Klemm, Gren.Rgt. 1034
The attached card clearly shows how sometimes (I´d say often) HPA personnel made confusion (infact these cards are not always reliable (errorfree)).......For example this card refers to the later GM. Kuno Klemm but the last 2 lines refer to Ob. Günther Klemm.
