Knight's Cross for Wilhelm Tschenett?

Post by Heimatschuss » 17 Feb 2016 14:16

Hello,

in a blurred newspaper copy from April 1945 I've found the attached report saying that a Feldwebel Wilhelm 'Willi' Tschenett from Schlachtgeschwader 2 had posthumously been awarded the Knight's Cross on March 12th, 1945.

I can't find Tschenett in the database of http://www.das-ritterkreuz.de and there's very little on him in the rest of internet. Does anyone of you know if he appears in the standard reference books about holders of the Knight's Cross, especially Veit Scherzer?

Tschenett was mentioned as a potential Knight's Cross recipient in this thread at TOCH forum http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/showthread.php?p=173782 but the discussion of his case didn't get very far. If I understand the Google translation of this entry

correctly Tschenett was for most of the time the radio operator (i.e. rear gunner) of Stuka ace Rudolf Reussner who received the Knight's Cross in Febr. 1944.

Here's Tschenett's entry from the VdK database:

Nachname: Tschenett
Vorname: Wilhelm Alois
Dienstgrad: Feldwebel
Geburtsdatum: 06.06.1921
Geburtsort: Feldkirch (Vorarlberg, Austria)
Todes-/Vermisstendatum: 07.02.1945
Todes-/Vermisstenort: Guben (Silesia) *
*)
Since the VdK (German War Graves Commission) says his remains will be buried in Posen/Poznan, Poland if they're found Tschenett's plane obviously came down east of Neisse River that currently is the border between Germany and Poland.

Death notice for Wilhelm Tschenett listing his decorations:

Gentlemen,

So there were two men from the Luftwaffe with same name of Wilhelm Tschenett. One was a Oberfeldwebel with SG 77 who was killed in March of 1945. The other one was a Feldwebel with SG 2 "Immelmann" with 825 sorties to his credit and was missing in action on Feb.7,1945.

Sincerely,

Edward L. Hsiao
