As there was only a handful of officers who were promoted to GM zV before 01.07.1940, I would assume those retired before that date should have been charakterisiert only. Maybe someone erronously listed some of them as full GM.

I agree with askropp that this is most probably a typo by the HPA clerks.

In other later appointments lists he is listed as GM zV, for example:
"mit Wirkung vom 20.12.1940 char.GM zV Schmidt-Kolbow FR zum Kommandant des rückwärtigen Armeegebiets 590"

The HPA clerks did occasionally make mistakes in these lists, which were corrected in later lists. This might be one such case.

Hello
re appointments lists :
Schmidt-Kolbow was from sept. 40 Kdt. Kgf.Bez. XI (Kgf.Bez. O existed from apr. 41)
Was Ziegler´s first name really Hermann ? So, was he sept. 40 possibly char. GM. only ? He was not Kdt. Kgf.Bez. A (Haeublein was), so he was transferred to but not as Kdt.
Was Sauter´s first name really Karl ? Wegmann has a Sauter Fritz as Kdt. of Kgf.Bez. (same or different officer ?).
So, was he sept. 40 possibly char. GM. only ? Was he from sept. 40 transferred to or effective Kdt. Kgf.Bez. M ?
Thanks, Rossano

First and foremost, thank you very much to everyone for your interest and collaboration-

1) As John says, the names of these Generals zV, are from the "Personalveränderungen" of the year 1940 (T77 R939 to R 944).

2) I made a mistake with the GM zV Sieg aus dem aktiven Dienst der Wehrmacht verabschiedet (MVA) 30.6.40, its name is "SIEGL"

3) The other names are as they appear in the documents, although as John also says, the errors in the names are very frequent and they are corrected in later documents, although to know them they have to be included in the Rolls, which does not always happen.

4) Generals Sauter, Prihoda-Naher, SIEGL and Freiherr von Rotburg do not appear in the Ehrenrangliste nor in the Reichsheer. Could they be Austrians? I do not have the Schematism of the year 1918.

Information on the GM zV Sauter, im Stab AOK 12, 6.9.1940 K Kgf Bezirk Kommandantur M (Chef MV Frankreich) 6.9.40. MVA 311240, is true and that appears in the Personalveränderungen (T77 R943 Frame 4415986).
As die Askrop can not be Karl Sauter (1870-1959) was retired as Char. GM in 1920 ..

The two Generals Freiherr von Rotberg, do not appear related to the service of the prisoners of War. Data on Freiherr von Rotburg (T77 R942 Frame 441513) are, in Stab AOK 7 and Fuhrerreserve. Obviously there is a coincidence.

The GM zV "SIEGL", could be as John says "Generalmajor zV Siegel who is listed as" Seine Mob.Verwendung wird mit Wirkung vom 30.06.1940 aufgehoben "
I also do not have data from this General.

5) GM zV Ziegler K Fstalag 120 and K Kgf Bezirk Kommandantur A (T77 R942 Frame 4414886))

In the Ehrenrangliedonde there are a lot of Zieglers. Those of the Reichsheer I have identified.

Rossano data on Ziegler (K Fstalag 120 and 4.9.40 K Kgf Bezirk Kommandantur A) and Sauter are those that appear in the Personalveränderungen.
(T77 R942)

Jakev, I have no data on Hermann Ziegler (1869-1941) who received the Charakter als Generalmajor on 27.08.1939.

6) Most likely the Char. GM zV (20.6.40 mW 1.7.40 RDA 1.1.40) Ritter von Bogendoer, be Char GM zV (RDA 27.8.39) Ritter von Bogendorfer, but the latter amounts to GM zV with an RDA of 1.11.1041.

7) Char. GM zV Schönfelder perfectly identifies Dieter.

78 As regards GM zV Glaissert, K Oflag Hadamar and K Stalag XII A 10.4.40, it appears to be GM zV Gaissert in Stab Chef MV Frankreich, 6.9.40 Kriegsgefangen Bezirk Kommandat Z. For this coincides in being K Oflag Hadamar ( 22 Nov 1939-15 Apr 1940) and K Stalag XII A 10.4.40 (15 Apr 1940-19 Jul 1940). Although later it appears like Commandant of POW-District IX in France (19 Jul 1940-24 Jun 1941). (T77 R 940 Frame 4412733 appears as GLAISSERT) and (T77 R943 Frame 4415986).

In short, Glaissert / Gaisser and Schönfelder are resolved.

Prihoda-Naeher was active Oberst in Austrian Bundesheer and retired in 1931. After retirement he became honrary Generalmajor.

Sauter was not an Austrian.

There were two retired (1926) Generalmajore Rudolf and Robert Siegel in the Bundesheer.

Generalarzt z.V. Friedrich Haeseler (1877-1964)

#21

Post by askropp » 23 Apr 2017, 14:06

There are definitely many cases in which the "char." was erroneously omitted in the Personalveränderungen. But it is very unlikely that a wrong Dienstgrad would have been used. Therefore, the future GA z.V. Friedrich Haeseler must have been char. GA z.V. before, as he is (wrongly) mentioned as GA z.V. in 1940. I would say it is safe to assume that he got the Charakter als Generalstabsarzt (alt) when he retired. His bio in Bradley is very sketchy, but if it is true that Johannes Käfer took over from Haeseler as Divisionsarzt 1 on 01.01.1932, Haeseler's RDA should have been just that date.

Hello Santiago
Haeublein' s Werdegang reads : "1.9.40 Kdt. Kgf.Bez. A"
So maybe Ziegler later "nicht wirksam" ???

Generalveterinär z.V. Dr. Paul Kämper is listed in Bradley as a former Oberstveterinär z.V. (from 01.07.1938). But the Personalveränderungen Nr. 4190/41 list him as former Char. Generalveterinär. It seems obvious that Kämper, who was retired along with future Generalveterinär z.V. Prof. Dr. Ernst Lührs on 31.01.1932, must have gotten this Charakter on 01.02.1932 (just like Lührs).

Friedrich Ritter von Bogendörfer (although his name is spelled incorrectly in the attachment) was given a Rangdienstalter als Oberst z.V. on 20 Jun 1940 mit Wirkung vom 1 Jul 1940 und RDA vom 1 Jan 1940. He is listed as being both char. Oberst und char. Generalmajor z.V.

Hello
1) in the attachment above Haeseler is reported as San.Offz. b. Befh. Dänem. from 30.5.40 whilst Keilig + Wegmann have him as such from 4.40, maybe mFb. or kdrt. ?
Also, Keilig + Wegmann have him as Gen.Arzt from 1.8.41, so why the attachment above reads "Gen.Arzt" already on "30.5.40" ?
2) Keilig + Wegmann have Bogendörfer in 1940 as OFK 589, if true (as deputy ?) from/to when ?
Also, Keilig + Wegmann have Keim OFK 589 from 1.3.40 (he was before Korück 589).
This change (from Korück to OFK, dated 1.3.40), is confirmed by Tessin too.
So why does the attachment above read "b. OFK 589 1.1.40"(should read "b. Korück 589" instead)
