Since he had the DKiS and was not a front officer, he presumably also received the Kriegsverdienstkreuz 1. u. 2. Klasse mit Schwertern (some front officers who had the EK1 would receive the DKiS without having already received a KVK).
Could Konteradmiral Ernst Kratzenberg have recieved the WW1 U-Boot-Kriegsabzeichen? He was a Watch-Officer on ‘U 60’, II. Submarine-Flotilla (27 Jun 1918-04 Jan 1919).
Kratzenberg's entry in the Crew Chronik for the Crew of 1914 does not mention it. Other officers in that Crew Chronik have theirs listed, as well as other combat badges. So I cannot say one way or another. Maybe a good photo will turn up.
And do you agree Fritz Krauss recieved the Ehrenkreuz für Frontkämpfer?
I had the impression that he was only on training cruises during 1918. However, the Wikipedia article on the SMS König mentions some combat patrols, so you are probably correct that he did enough to receive the Ehrenkreuz für Frontkämpfer.

Awards of Konteradmiral Menche

#243

Post by Kriegsmarine Großadmiral » 17 Nov 2017, 19:47

For Konteradmiral Menche we can also add:
-1939 Spange zum EK II
-1939 Spange zum EK I
-Nahkampfspange in Silber
-Ehrenzeichen des Deutschen Roten Kreuzes mit Eichenlaub (1937)

And the dates for:
-Kriegsverdienstkreuz 2. Klasse mit Schwertern (01.09.1941.)
-Kriegsverdienstkreuz 1. Klasse mit Schwertern (20.04.1942.)

Source: https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/15 ... al-archive

There is no photo evidence of him wearing the Nahkampfspange in Silber and the 1939 Spange zum EK II and EK I. But I believe this site is trustworthy and he indeed recieved these 3 awards. I am only not 100% sure about the Nahkampfspange in Silber? Wasn't this awared for hand-to-hand fighting in close quarters? And Menche wasn't exactly fighthing hand to hand during his service.

There is pretty much no chance in hell that Menche received a Nahkampfspange and as he was not a front officer I seriously doubt the EK1 mit Spange and the EK2Spange are his. Auction sites are not a reliable source for groups like this, where the provenance is unclear and certainly incomplete. I have seen plenty of auctions where the person who consigned the items - a family member or collector - simply mixed up items that originally did not belong together.

Agreed, I would like to see close-ups of the cased EK1 / Spange combo, as I have my doubts.

The thread urgently needs moderation to maintain clarity and proportionality! If that is not possible, it will be permanently closed!
It is absolutely nonsensical to post new requests for awards from individual admirals without answering previous queries. This only leads to confusing chaos.
It is also refrain from routinely repeating the previous post each time per "quoting", just to say "thank you for your answer". This is a waste of space and bloat the thread only excessive!
I would also be grateful if the request for a certain admiral were finally assigned the appropriate heading instead of automatically posting "Awards and decorations of some Admirals needed".
I ask for understanding.
Thank you

This thread is very important to me because there is little more than 50 Konteradmirals left. When I gather all of the Admirals Awards I plan on making a new thread (you can the delete this one) in which I will post the Awards of every single Kriegsmarine Admiral (and other officers in Admirals rank) + at least 3 photos of them to help other researchers (Admirals bios can be easily found on the geocities site). I know there already exists a thread with the Awards of some Admirals (you closed it) but it's very incomplete and holds only the Awards of Admirals you can find on the geocities site.
So I would kindly ask you not to close this thread as of yet. I also send private PMs to the most active members of this thread (Requin Marteau and Dave Danner) to help when the Admirals pile up but they don't respond at once.
So I ask for your understanding in this matter.
Also, I will assign the headings properly in the future.
Regards.

Awards of Konteradmirals: Oehler, Paul, Peters, Punt

#254

Post by Kriegsmarine Großadmiral » 28 Nov 2017, 23:27

Instead of asking for awards every day I will now ask for awards of 4-5 Admirals at once every few days:
Konteradmiral Oswald Paul
Konteradmiral Rudolf Peters
Konteradmiral Siegfried Punt

Thanks.

Konteradmiral Oswald Paul
1914 Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse
1914 Eisernes Kreuz 1. Klasse
Hamburgisches Hanseatenkreuz
Ehrenkreuz für Frontkämpfer
Wehrmacht (Heer/Marine) Dienstauszeichnung 4. bis 1. Klasse (für das früher verliehene Kgl. preußische Dienstauszeichnungskreuz)

Konteradmiral Rudolf Peters
Deutsches Kreuz in Gold
1939 Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse
1939 Eisernes Kreuz 1. Klasse
Ehrenkreuz für Frontkämpfer
Wehrmacht (Heer/Marine) Dienstauszeichnung 4. bis 2. Klasse

I assume he received a Flotten-Kriegsabzeichen. I have no idea if he qualified for anything else. He has a ribbon after the Ehrenkreuz für Frontkämpfer but before the DA, but the only photo I have seen is too fuzzy. This could be an Austrian Kriegserinnerungsmedaille or a Lifesaving Medal.

Konteradmiral Siegfried Punt
1914 Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse
1914 Eisernes Kreuz 1. Klasse
Großherzoglich oldenburgisches Friedrich-August-Kreuz 2. Klasse
Großherzoglich oldenburgisches Friedrich-August-Kreuz 1. Klasse
Ehrenkreuz für Frontkämpfer
Königlich preußisches Dienstauszeichnungskreuz

If Paul or Punt received any WW2 awards, I don't have any evidence. At the very least a KVK2X seems likely.
