GL. Schmid-Dankward

#1

Post by Rossano » 14 Sep 2017, 09:05

Hello
In forum there is a photo showing Weidling, Schmid-Dankward, and another general (is it now known who is he ?) just after surrender in Berlin. My question : which assignment did Schmid-Dankward have in april/may 45 in Berlin (or under the LVI. PzK.) ? History of the 4. SS-PGD reads that Schmid-Dankward on 2.5.45 commanded the 5. Jäg.Div., but this data/unit is certainly wrong. In the Kriegsglied. dated 30.04 there is the 9. Fs.Jäg.Div. under the LVI. PzK, did he maybe command this one or what ?
Thanks, Rossano

Here is the pic Weidling 02.05.1945 surrender in Berlin
with Generalleutnant z.V. Kurt Woytasch [second from left], Oberst Hans Refior and Walter Schmid-Dankward.

Generalleutnant z.V. Walter Schmid-Dankward:
00.04.1945 - 02.05.1945 z.V. im Stab des Generals der Artillerie Weidling, des Kommandanten von Berlin

Jes, that' s it. Many thanks for Your Info !
So die Gesch. d. 4. SS-PGD gives a wrong data, and Schmid-Dankward, according to Your data, didn' t command any unit but was in the staff of the Kdt. v. Berlin (is it known in which position ?). Is it not possible that even if he was officially in Weidling' s staff, he also commanded some unit ?)
Rgds., Rossano
P.S.: but now I have the same question for Woytasch too, what was he doing 4/5.45 with Weidling ? Which was his official assignment ?

What is the source for this? Schmid-Dankward was z.V. but not too sure about Woytasch?

"In the last weeks of WW II Woytasch took again his uniform being retired and joined the Staff of General Weidling in Berlin together with Walter-Schmid-Dankwart. These three generals went together in Sovietic captivity after the surrender of Berlin".

Dieter gave that designation for Schmid-Dankward

Ok, thanks, you expanded your post at the same time as I posted mine ... then I'd like to redirect my question to Dieter?

Hi, what is the Generalleutnant z.V. promotion dates of Schmid-Dankward?

This is what I got from Lexikon der Wehrmacht:
Generalleutnant (1 December 1941)
Charakter als Generalleutnant (1 December 1940)
Generalmajor (1 February 1939)

Maybe his Generalleutnant promotion is actually for Generalleutnant z.V.?

Hello
In Halder´s KTB it is stated in april 1940 : "Kurs in Wahn"
which Kurs or Schule was there in Wahn in april 1940 ?
(I have there a Kp.Fhr.-Schule only, but I doubt that it fits for an Art.GM.)
Also, was the Kurs foreseen but then not attended to ? No mention in his Dienstlaufbahn.....
Thanks
