Admiralarzt Dr.med. Alois Evers
Some uncommon awards here.
At first glance the award on Evers' right breast appears to be an Eiserner Halbmond. However in the 1929 Rangliste it says he recieved a "TR" (Roter Halbmond) and not the "TH" (Eiserner Halbmond). Can someone explain the difference between the Eiserner and Roter Halbmond and post a photo of the Roter Halbmond?
Also, in the Rangliste it says he was awarded the Seeflieger-Beobachter-Abzeichen. Can someone explain more about this award (what for was it awarded etc.) and share a photo of it.
Thanks.

Neither Roter or Eiserner were the official names of this award. It was simply "Otoman War Medal" (Harp Madalyası). They are the same decoration.
Do you have the complete list of his awards?

But look (below) at the entry from 1929 Rangliste, they are 2 different awards!Cartaphilus wrote:Neither Roter or Eiserner were the official names of this award. It was simply "Otoman War Medal" (Harp Madalyası). They are the same decoration.

These are the awards I have for him:
-Iron Cross (1914) 2nd Class
-Army Wound Badge in Black (1918)
-Aircraft Observer Badge (Flugzeugbeobachter-Abzeichen)
-Hamburg Hanseatic Cross
-Red Crescent Moon (Ottoman Empire)
-The Honour Cross of the World War 1914/1918 with Swords
-Wehrmacht Long Service Awards 4th to 2nd Class (not 100% sure about the classes of DA, he was in the Army since 1915 and then entered the Navy in 1922 but there is a gap in his bio about what he did from 1915 until 1922, that's why I put 4th to 2nd Class)
-War Merit Cross (1939) 1st Class with Swords
-War Merit Cross (1939) 2nd Class with Swords
-Bulgarian Honorary Badge of the Red Cross
-Officer's Cross of the Bulgarian Order of Military Merit with Swords

If during the Great War he was serving at the Army, and entered in the Navy on 1922, it's very rare that he were awarded with the Naval Observer Badge...

Perhaps the Roter Halbmond was the Turkish Red Cross Medal.

Another alternative is the Eiserner Halbmond on non-combatant ribbon (if such a thing existed?).

Yes, I think the non-combatant Halbmond is correct, because the Eiserner Halbmond would be listed in the Rangliste.luftk wrote:Another alternative is the Eiserner Halbmond on non-combatant ribbon (if such a thing existed?).

Whether the decoration is awarded as a combatant or a non-combatant, the appeal is the same : Eiserner Halbmond
