My opinion:

2) Komturkreuz des Königlich Ungarischen Verdienstordens (20.08.1938)

4) Medaille zur Erinnerung an den 1. Oktober 1938 (20.12.1939)

5) Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes & Eichenlaub zum Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes (21. 04. 1940 and 06. 04. 1943)

6) Kaiserlich Türkischer Eiserner Halbmond (07.11.1916)

Thank you Gregg.

And what about the U-Bootskriegsabzeichen (00. 7. 1917 or 04. 10. 1918) and numbers 1) and 3)?

It is hard to say. It can be either of the two.

The U-Bootskriegsabzeichen award date can't be 00. 7. 1917 because that award was instituted on 01.02.1918.

And for the Spange (1939) zum Eisernen Kreuz I. Klasse at least tell me if you lean more towards 28. 09. 1939 or 20. 12. 1939?

It is true, Karlo. I had not noticed.

20.12.1939 Spange zum EK 1. Klasse

Like Alfred Jodl...

30.09.1939 Spange zum EK 2. Klasse
23.12.1939 Spange zum EK 1. Klasse

That's why I would lean more towards the 28. 09. 1939 date...
It's so hard when you have two conflicting sources.

Why not? It is plausible.

Also, a big mistake is the date for the U-Bootskriegsabzeichen (00. 7. 1917). This award was instituted on 01.02.1918, so it's not possible that anyone received it before that date. I trust the award date we have now: 04. 10. 1918. Your opinion? 1918

1) Königlich Preußisches Allgemeines Ehrenzeichen in Silber
Soldbuch says 17. 06. 1913
Books by Dörr and Busch & Röll both say 07. 06. 1913
both are possible

2) Komturkreuz des Königlich Ungarischen Verdienstordens
Soldbuch says 00. 09. 1938
Book by Dörr says 20. 08. 1938
both are possible

3) Spange (1939) zum Eisernen Kreuz I. Klasse
Soldbuch says 28. 09. 1939

4) Medaille zur Erinnerung an den 1. Oktober 1938
Books by Dörr and Busch & Röll both say 20. 12. 1939

5) Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes & Eichenlaub zum Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes
All other books (Dörr, Scherzer, Fellgiebel) say 21. 04. 1940 and 06. 04. 1943

6) Kaiserlich Türkischer Eiserner Halbmond
Book by Busch & Röll gives the date 07. 11. 1916.

New updates.

1) Admiralarzt Dr. med. Hugo Caanitz viewtopic.php?f=5&t=239341&p=2192845&hi ... z#p2192845

Thanks to new photographic evidence we know the exact class of his Ehrenzeichens des Deutschen Roten Kreuzes.

Replace the Ehrenzeichen des Deutschen Roten Kreuzes (Class unknown) with Verdienstkreuz des Ehrenzeichens des Deutschen Roten Kreuzes.

2) Generaladmiral Conrad Albrecht viewtopic.php?f=5&t=239341&p=2178004&hi ... t#p2178004

Add the award dates for the following awards:

-Eisernes Kreuz (1914) II. Klasse (15. 12. 1914)
-Eisernes Kreuz (1914) I. Klasse (03. 06. 1916)
-Großherzoglich Oldenburgisches Friedrich August-Kreuz II. Klasse mit Spange „Vor dem Feinde“ (10. 08. 1916)
-Großherzoglich Oldenburgisches Friedrich August-Kreuz I. Klasse (10. 08. 1916)

3) Vizeadmiral Ernst Scheurlen viewtopic.php?f=5&t=239341&p=2184087&hi ... n#p2184087

Delete the Deutsches Sportabzeichen from his list. This award was added to his list based on photographic evidence. That photo actually shows Leopold Bürkner and not Scheurlen.

4) Vizeadmiral Werner Grassmann viewtopic.php?f=5&t=239341&p=2181433&hi ... n#p2181433

Change the award date of his Ritterkreuz des Königlich Belgischen Ordens Leopolds II. to (14. 08. 1912).

5) Vizeadmiral Heinrich Hanke viewtopic.php?f=5&t=239341&p=2181490&hi ... e#p2181490

Thanks to the info provided by Ini Dalldorf we have some new updates for Hanke.

Add:

-Kriegsdenkmünze 1914/1918 des Kyffhäuserbundes (20. 05. 1922) (add it below the Marineverwundetenabzeichen (1918) in Schwarz)
-Kolonialauszeichnung (Löwenorden) I. Stufe in Silber (18. 08. 1923) (add it below the Kolonialabzeichen (Elefantenorden)
-Königlich Spanischer Orden für Verdienste zur See III. Klasse mit Weiß Verliehen (21. 08. 1939) (add it below the Wehrmacht Dienstauszeichnung IV. bis I. Klasse)

Also add the award date (30. 01. 1942) after his Kriegsverdienstkreuz (1939) I. Klasse mit Schwertern.

6) Großadmiral Karl Dönitz viewtopic.php?f=5&t=239341&p=2177961&hi ... z#p2177961

We discussed the award dates of Dönitz in great detail just above this post. I decided to change some things (taking into consideration the opinions of Gregg and Thierry).

Change the award date of his Königlich Preußisches Allgemeines Ehrenzeichen in Silber to (17. 06. 1913).
I think this award date should be the correct one since it comes from the Soldbuch, the other date (07. 06. 1913) is from the books, and it's possible they made a mistake (omitting the "1" in "17").

Change the award date of his Spange (1939) zum Eisernen Kreuz I. Klasse to (28. 09. 1939).
I agree with Thierry seeing this date is from the Soldbuch. It would make sense he got the Spange zum I. Klasse shortly after the II. Klasse, and not in December like it is stated in the books. Also, the same award date (20. 12. 1939) is written for his Medaille zur Erinnerung an den 1. Oktober 1938.

Change the award date of his Kaiserlich Türkischer Eiserner Halbmond to (07. 11. 1916) and move it below the Herzoglich Anhaltisches Friedrich-Kreuz to be chronologically correct.

Hi,

Just came across this photo of Kretschmer from 1966 and wonder who the elderly gentleman with the hat sitting next to him, greeting someone and whom all the women women in the background seems to stare at, is - is it GAdm. Dönitz?

Yes, it's Dönitz. And next to him Admiral Theodor Krancke.

Here's another few from the same occasion. Kiel, June 1966.

Dönitz sits to the right of the podium.

Same source as the one above - Bundesarchiv.
