You are right. My apologies! Maybe you can add it to the other photos of Fuchs, then.

Here is another photo of later Generaladmiral Witzell, taken in November 1939. On his ribbon bar the "Vor dem Feinde" clasp is clearly visible. In my opinion the second ribbon looks like a BM4X.

Best regards,
Nicolas
This is Admiral Werner Fuchs, not Witzell.
That´s right.

Thanks to Gregg, who identified Konteradmiral Günther Schubert on this photo, we have a new update for him.

Please add: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=239341&p=2190620&hi ... t#p2190620

-Spange (1939) zum Eisernen Kreuz II. Klasse
-Eisernes Kreuz (1939) I. Klasse

Add the awards below the Eisernes Kreuz (1914) II. Klasse.

You can delete the part of the text that says "I also don't know if he was awarded the Spange zum EK II and the 1939 EK I.".

Also, please add this new photo for both Schubert and Admiral Otto Backenköhler with the photo description written below it.
Link to Backenköhler: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=239341&p=2178739&hi ... r#p2178739

Thank you luftk and Mikko!

Moderators, please add the new award for Admiral Wilhelm Canaris: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=239341&p=2178934&hi ... s#p2178934

-Kommandeurkreuz I. Klasse des Ordens der Weißen Rose von Finnland (1936)

Add it below the Königlich Ungarische Weltkriegs-Erinnerungsmedaille mit Schwertern.

P.S. Can Mikko confirm the two awards of the Orden des Freiheitskreuzes that were awarded 3 days apart?

There is a list of recipients posted on this forum which notes Canaris as follows:
Order of the Cross of Liberty, 1st Class with Star and Swords, 16 September 1941

What is the source for the addition of oak leaves 3 days later? I would think there is an error here with one of these entries.

Re: Hans Erler and Herbert Goehle

Post by Kriegsmarine Großadmiral » 03 May 2020 17:09

We have new updates for 2 admirals.

Char. Konteradmiral z.V. Hans Erler viewtopic.php?f=5&t=239341&p=2186494&hi ... r#p2186494

Please add:

-Königlich Preußisches Dienstauszeichnungskreuz (add it above the Ehrenkreuz für Frontkämpfer)

Reason:
1. He was in active service from 1894 until 1919, that's exactly 25 full years.
2. The 3rd ribbon from the right on his long ribbon bar (the dark one) is the Preußisches Dienstauszeichnungskreuz in graveland's and my opinion.

You can also delete the sentence at the bottom: "One of those awards might be the Königlich Preußisches Dienstauszeichnungskreuz I. Klasse (he was in service from 1894 until 1919, but I can't confirm he received it)."

Konteradmiral z.V. Herbert Goehle viewtopic.php?f=5&t=239341&p=2187033&hi ... e#p2187033

Please delete the -Königlich Preußische Kaiser Wilhelm-Centenarmedaille 1897

Reason: He was in the Crew of 1897, entering service on 7 April 1897, too late for the Centenarmedaille which was awarded on 22 March 1897.

Please add:

-Kriegsverdienstkreuz (1939) II. Klasse mit Schwertern
-Kriegsverdienstkreuz (1939) I. Klasse mit Schwertern

(add both of these awards at the bottom of his list)

Delete all the text at the bottom after the first sentence: "Also, his WW2 awards (if he had any) are unknown..."

You can also add this new photo of Goehle, that is also the proof for his KVK1x and KVK2x.

Hello, I didn't see this question before now.

According to Matikkala's book cited above, Canaris received only the Cross of Liberty, 1st Class, with Swords and Breast Star (on 16 September 1941), never the Oak Leaves. The only wartime German recipients of that cross with Swords, Breast Star and Oak Leaves were Halder, von Küchler and Dietl.

The addition of the Oak Leaves on 19 September 1941 is quoted on Canaris' German Wikipiedia page from the book: "Wiljo E. Tuompo: Päiväkirjani päämajasta 1941–1944. WSOY, Porvoo/Helsinki 1968". See here: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilhelm_Canaris

The libraries are about to reopen here, so I can go and check this once I have the opportunity. But Matikkala's book is very comprehensive and if it doesn't mention the Oak Leaves I'm pretty certain Canaris didn't receive them.

Please let me know when you check this book. I am curious. I don't think they would make up this info on the Wiki page, they did quote the book after all.

Edit: I found Canaris' entry in this book on Google books. Can you please translate it? From the index it appears Canaris is mentioned only once, on this page (69).
