What is the medal after Oldenburg medal ( Maybe Bremen Hanseatenkreuz, but not sure) ?
What is the 5th ribbon (between Honour Cross and Long Service Decoration)?
It should be the Schlesisches Bewährungsabzeichen (Schlesischer Adler) 2. Klasse.

The ribbon doesn't resemble the Silesian Eagle ribbon. I see a dark ribbon with two light coloured stripes at the edge.

That's why I said "should be", mate. And the third from the left should be the Baltenkreuz, although it is located in the wrong place.

It could be the Königlich Bulgarische Kriegserinnerungsmedaille 1915/1918.

Personalakten of Kriegsmarine Admirals

#785

Post by Kriegsmarine Großadmiral » 19 Jun 2023, 18:13

The Personalakten of the majority of Kriegsmarine Admirals have finally been digitized on Invenio!

I will slowly start posting the relevant pages containing awards in the Database. I will start from the highest ranks (Großadmiral to Kommodore) alphabetically and make my way down to the Admiralärzte as the last ones to be featured.

I am also asking all the members to help me decipher the German handwriting of the awards and dates. Sometimes I will not be able to decipher it myself.

Some generals notes before I start:

This Database includes 340 admirals that were active or zur Verfügung in the Marine during the period between 1933 and 1945. The Personalakten of the majority of these 340 officers were digitized on Invenio. However, not all the Personalakten have the pages where awards are mentioned. Also, Marinebeamte im Admiralsrang are not included

The following admirals have a Personalakte on Invenio, but have not yet been digitized:

- Admiral Otto Backenköhler
- Char. Admiral Emil Heusinger von Waldegg
- Char. Vizeadmiral Max Looff
- Vizeadmiral Bernhard Rogge
- Char. Konteradmiral Walther Faber (Faber has two Personalakten, one of which is digitized and the other isn't)
- Char. Konteradmiral/Ministerialdirektor mit den Rangabzeichen eines Generalleutnants (Luftwaffe) Fritz Spiess

For the following admirals I was unable to find the Personalakte. They either don't exist or they are just not on Invenio. The majority of the admirals in question are the ones that were placed zur Verfügung but not mobilised before or during the war:

- Admiral Johannes Bachmann
- Char. Admiral Hermann Bauer
- Vizeadmiral Albrecht Freiherr von Freyberg-Eisenberg-Allmendingen
- Char. Vizeadmiral (Ing.) Ernst Friedrich
- Vizeadmiral Heinrich Hanke
- Char. Vizeadmiral Wilhelm Friedrich von Loewenfeld
- Vizeadmiral Friedrich Ruge
- Char. Vizeadmiral/General der Flakartillerie/SS-Gruppenführer Ludwig von Schröder
- Char. Konteradmiral Ernst Bindseil
- Char. Konteradmiral Karl Coupette
- Konteradmiral Werner Ehrhardt (Ehrhardt has a Personalakte from his Bundesmarine service, but it's also not digitized)
- Char. Konteradmiral Heinrich Gebhardt
- Char. Konteradmiral Waldemar Hirth
- Konteradmiral Rolf Johannesson
- Char. Konteradmiral Karl Klüpfel
- Char. Konteradmiral Reinhold Knobloch
- Char. Konteradmiral (Ing.) Wilhelm Korreng
- Konteradmiral Hans Küsel
- Char. Konteradmiral Albrecht Meißner
- Char. Konteradmiral Karl August Nerger
- Char. Konteradmiral Leo Riedel
- Konteradmiral Hermann Baron von Salza
- Char. Konteradmiral Heinrich Schickhardt
- Char. Konteradmiral Hans Seebohm
- Konteradmiral Gerhard Wagner
- Char. Konteradmiral Wilhelm Wilke
- Char. Konteradmiral Fritz Wossidlo
- Char. Admiralarzt Ernst Böse
- Char. Admiralarzt Emil Krauss
- Char. Admiralarzt Edgar Pillet
- Char. Admiralarzt Victor Praefcke
- Char. Admiralarzt Friedrich Titschack

If anyone is able to find the Invenio signatures for the Personalakten of these admirals, please let me know.

And here are the rest of documents listing Raeder's awards. The ones written on the white paper were written by a researcher without award dates. The ones on the brown paper include award dates. They list all the awards for Raeder we already know.

One thing that should be corrected is his Kroatischen Orden der Krone des Königs Zvonimir.
The correct class he was awarded was Großkreuz des Kroatischen Ordens der Krone des Königs Zvonimir mit Schwertern, without the "und andere Dekorationen" I wrote previously.

Thank you Gregg. But which class is it then? Großkreuz or 2. Klasse? It can't be both.

Who is the Admiral behind von Friedeburg?

#791

Post by Halfdan S. » 19 Jun 2023, 22:46

Hi,

Came across this photo and wondered who the Admiral with the RK behind von Friedeburg leaving the Patria in Flensburg Harbour on May 17th, 1945 is? Guess he's an Admiral (don't know too much about Navy grades, yet his stripes seems to match those of von Friedeburg?!).

No problem. But, when you ask for identification in the future please post the photos in the Request for Identification thread. This thread is for discussion of awards.

But perhaps he would receive both awards on different dates.
