Vater: Reinhard Freiherr von Gise (1854-1913)

25.02.1930 Heirat mit Ilsemarie Lechler (1907-1990)
3 Töchter (*1931/1934/1935)
Bruder von Oberstleutnant Johann Nepomuk Freiherr von Gise (1887-1946)

17.06.1941 Kommandeur des Infanterieersatzregiments 605
xx.xx.194x Feldkommandant 819
xx.xx.1945 Kommandeur der Kampfgruppe Gise

Ernst Merk is said to have written in his memoirs that Gise was killed during a last Soviet push towards Libau. Some genealogical websites say he went missing and was declared dead mit Wirkung vom 08.05.1945. Considering that Jodl hat already signed the surrender and the Red Army had nothing to gain by conquering Libau one day earlier, I would assume that suicide is another possibility.
Er ist wieder da. Aber auch dieses Mal wird er nicht siegen!

Hallo,

Gise has been pronounced dead by court. https://geneall.net/de/name/155673/erns ... -von-gise/ says:
Ernst August, Freiherr von Gise
* Schweinfurt, 17.07.1888
† Libau, Kurld.,fürtot erkl. durch Beschl. d. A.G. Ingolstadt mit Wirkung v., 08.05.1945
The village "Bernati" is far to much north for being KIA there, because the front line ran from Jurmalciems eastward, according to situation maps and my dad's report (he was there on 8th May 45). In these days and region there have indeed not been any attacks any more.

Best wishes,
Winfried

Do you have a chronological order or even dates?

Greetings,

Hello all,

to collect and describe all about Gise and his Group I made a web page within the project for my dad's diary: https://www.vexilli.net/w/Freiherr_Erns ... f_von_Gise

It contains all of this thread and that about his unit: (viewtopic.php?f=50&t=188593).

I hope for your approval!

Best wishes,
Winfried
