There seems to be an SSO-file on him in the Bundesarchiv, so seemingly also an SS-Officer?! But not in Dienstaltersliste 1944, so Rank below Sturmbannführer ... Gets interesting, who was he and what did he do 1941-1945?

Thanks a lot

I am very interested in his whereabouts and rank from 1943-1945. Where can I get more information about that?

Esser was a very close friend to Hitlers photographer Walter Frentz and Frentz married the widow of Esser after the war and raised his four children

He is in Biographisches Handbuch des deutschen Auswärtigen Dienstes 1871-1945, but only the first page of his bio is available on google books. Maybe someone has access to a printed copy.
