I have a rememberance card for Obergefreiter Josef Hofpointner. I am looking for records on his military service. I was able to ID his date of birth as 29 Jan 1920 in Andorf, Austria and his death on 22 Juli 1943 around Orel, Russia. He died at a field hospital but I am not sure what this actually means: H.V. PL., San. Kp 2/60 Gustawar. He belonged to the 3 Komp/Panz Pion Batl 86/9. Panzer Div.
Anything else about date of ranks, awards, and other military service would be greatly appreciated.

H.V.Pl = Hauptverbandplatz which is the main dressing station, in this case for 2. Sanitäts-Kompanie 60 of 9.Pz.Division.
To find out about his military service and any awards etc you will need to order a copy of his records from Bundesarchiv ( https://www.bundesarchiv.de/EN/Content/ ... en-en.html ) unless someone happens to have his Wehrstammbuch, Wehrpass and/or his Soldbuch.
