Yes, the color pic has often been attributed as Hilss.
But I think this pic (from the 100 NCO series) has also been said to be Hilss. Cannot be -- Hilss's last rank was Uffz and the black and white I posted -- a more complete one at Kai Winkler's clearly shows the should strap of an ObFwb. So who could my guy be?

Unknown Luftwaffe-Oberleutnant 1941?
Does anyone know who this is? Photo from Fliegerhorst Esbjerg/DK august 1941. He is a Beobachter not a pilot!!

Seigfried Strelow...or Strehlow
Yes, pic number two is Siegfried Strelow. Except that the name is spelled wrong and has been copied all over the english sites on the internet causing no end of confusion. It should be Strehlow, that's how it is spelled on the only German language site I could find. He commanded u-435 as well as serving on the Graf Spee. He was a relative, my grandfather talked about him during the war, my mother's maiden name is Strehlow. If anyone knows more about him I would love to hear it, few of our German relatives survived the war (Most of them lived in Prussia) and we are just now starting to reconstruct our family history.
