Re: Knight's Cross Holders Identification
This one has been identified (later) as Johannes Schulz
[page 2] : http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... 64#p279164
Could be the question if
Johannes Schulz, Major, Kdr. I./IR 49 , 06.10.1941
or (to rule out finally)
Dr. Johannes Schulz. Oberst, Kdr. PGR 10, 19.09.1943
if there is no objection :
the IR 49 / 28. ID Schulz with the typical shoulder board cover of 1941 (strongly in use by that division).

Hello, All,
On PP 169, there is a photo listed as unk 13.jpg and has not been identified to my knowledge. However, if I inadvertently overlooked that fact, I apologize.
That is a photograph of Oberstleutnant Gustav-Albrecht Schmidt-Ott.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
Terry

Re: Knight's Cross Holders Identification
Hello, Braband,
I just wanted to add to your clarification of SS-Gruppenführer Heinz Reinefarth.
Yes, he held simultaneous rank in the German Army and received his Knight´s Cross in France as a Feldwebel in the German Army.
It may also be of interest, that I tried to write to him while he was alive in 1978. He died in 1979 and was for many years the mayor of Westerland on the island of Sylt in the North Sea off the German coast.
He would not write me. Not that I didn´t write to him in German. I did. He steadfastly did not respond to my letters.
I finally sent him a registered letter, and even that was refused. I had to send a trace on that letter to see what had happened to it. He simply had not picked it up at the post office.
To my knowledge, he wrote German collectors, but never to Americans. I know, because I checked. I was finally able to get a hand-signed letter addressed to a German collector who had since passed on.
I found that very interesting. I know he spent some time in American captivity, and apparently it did not agree with him.
I thought I would pass this on. It always interested me about Reinefarth that he held such a lowly rank in the Army but rose to general officer´s rank in the SS. I am sure there are other such examples, but his particularly attracted my attention.
Take care and hope you found this interesting.

Re: Knight's Cross Holders Identification
Apparently the pic series on page 3 never was identified completely (I reached page 25 and no further ids for that).
http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... 74#p281374
So, those not identified there, are :
series 1- 20 : # 3 , 5, 6 , 8 , 9 , 14 , 15 , 16
can anyone confirm, if #11 is Hans-Günther Stotten and #17 is Karl-Heinrich Banze
series 21 - 40 : # 22 , 24 , 27 , 32
can anyone confirm, if #35 is Georg Keppler ; #36 : which Schreiber ?
Thanks, Bernd

Re: Knight's Cross Holders Identification
Hello, Baumer,
This may come somewhat belated, but you asked for a translation of the back of picture you had purchased at an auction in Germany some time back.
I don´t think was translated for you. At least, I looked to see and could find nothing.
So here goes: To my dear Obergefreiter (Senior Corporal) Weiss in remembrance of his battalion commander Oberstleutnant (Lt.-Col.) Kraus 1938-40.
Hope this helps and I hope you receive this.
Take care.
