Thanks Harmel,

Is it Navy officer in the second pic.? (Buttons?)

According to the source, there might be a connection with Kriegsmarine "Kleinkampfverbände".

all the best,

Ralf

Hello, Ralf,

To answer your question concerning the depicted officer with the fur collar, he does belong to a naval unit. Not sure yet.
If you compare the hat device with that of Helmut Heye's, you can see the similiarities.

Hope this helps.

Hi!

Who is this please? The signature looks like Schneckenburger, but the face doesn't. The first name is Wilhelm.

Many thanks in advance,

VJK

Sirs,

I am completely lost. The pic of VJK shows allegedly GdI Wilhelm Schneckenburger. At least this is what the signature or the caption says.

Image

A confirmation for this guess is that in the ribbon bar the person is clearly showing a Württemberg, Militär-Verdienstorden, Ritterkreuz, which was received by Schneckenburger.

If this person is Schneckenburger Freiherr´s correct guess is that the pic below is Schneckenburger too:

Image

However the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, listing pics of the Sammlung Hoffmann, is stating that Schneckenburger (retouched however) looked like:
Rudolf Konrad / AHF id / see next page

See:
http://elektra.bsb-muenchen.de/jsp/fram ... timeout=10

Finally we have two Options for Schneckenburger not bearing the slightest resemblance to each other in my opinion. Strange.

Hi Jürgen,

The bsb Muenchen pic could be a very young Schneckenburger early in his career. The mouth and ears at least did not contradict. It was so air-brushed and the general collar patches must be added on. The Kai Winkler pic was inscribed on the back addressed to a couple of HJ's and clearly said Wilhlem Schneckenburger. Sometimes people just aged into such a different look. Eberhard Rodt (ever seen how skinny he was when he was int he Reichsheer) and Erich Heinrich Clössner are just two good examples.

Cheers
Freiherr

Hi gents!

Many thanks for putting my mind at rest. I agree with Freiherr that the bsb Muenchen pic is most likely an airbrushed much younger Schneckenburger. It's nice to finally see a "proper" portrait of this camera-shy General.

Best regards,

VJK

Hi guys!
Please let me get into your discussion.
First of all, thanks to VJK for the nice pic he has posted.
I have to recognize that it is the first picture I have seen of SCHNECKENBURGER, so I have to assume he is the real one for the writting on the back of the picture.
As for the picture showed by Stauffenberg II taken from the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek I always was suspecious, because it looked to me, and now I am convinced , that the general that it has been considered so far as SCHNECKENBURGER is really RUDOLF KONRAD.
I hope you agree with me that some (not many) identifications made in great Archives (Bundesarchiv, BPK, Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, NARA.... , you name them) are erroneous and this is one of them.
I would like to hear your comments and let´s keep on searching!
Best regards.

This pic was posted by "Larry L" from http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com forum. The ID given is Reinhold Knacke but Knacke won his RK as an Oblerleutnant. So, who's this man then?

Hello, Fangio,

You asked about the last pic posted on Page 218. It is indeed mis-identified. It is not a picture of Reinhold Knacke. It is indeed a picture of Stabsfeldwebel Heinz Nacke, who was a pilot in the 3rd Gruppe of KG/76 at the time of his KC award.

Hope this helps.

Take care.

So, it's Nacke and not Knacke. Thanks a lot Terry!
