Re: Knight's Cross Holders Identification
Thanks Terry and Gregg ! I have an issue for you both, too, later.
Gregg, your id round is a legendary one already I think, great !
I'm glad that you had GendInf Ernst Dehner. While editing I spotted an error which was caused by an identical (nafa)caption for Dehner and Fries (as Dehner appears in an earlier nafa series first). I've crossed out the wrong Fries and captioned both identical Dehner pics.
Yes, I see no other possibility than the id for Kurt Herzog. Seen everywhere like that. It is a strange pic nevertheless ; a younger Herzog, and "upgraded".
Very nice id of Friedrich-August Schack. Not too many pics out there, and I've not seen a younger Schack.
Thanks for the Eibl correction ! My fault. But I never felt comfortable with this.
Where a last person's id lacks I think, looks now :
Model, Zorn, and a RKT on the back seat
RKT shaking hands - presenting : Friedrich Fromm

Gregg, are you sure about Hans Seidemann ?
Engel 1,2.jpg
Did he alter from a pilot in relatively good shape to a "round man" ?

Re: Knight's Cross Holders Identification
there are now different ids for this one 10.jpg- Page 66: Major Walter FROMM (10.JPG).
It was requested again later by Ingo and was identified by Terry much later : Ernst Gürke
For comparisn here we have Ernst Gürke for sure - http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... 5#p1260475
After Terry's late id of Gürke, of whom you now say it is Walter Fromm, I said :
No reply back then. Doesn't sound that convinced and comfortable, or ?By chance I found a reference photo (Hoffmann card) [source: militaria321.com].
Viewing this Hoffmann pic I had doubts first. But the more I look, the eye-browes, the nose..
So, hopefully this is useful to rule out doubts and to have a 100% confirmation. And a nice pic !![]()
Best regards
Bernd
Additional material : This Flak group pic with Gürke said to be in the middle (belongs to a number of special requests/issues I have on hold)

Now, what do you all think ?

Re: Knight's Cross Holders Identification
The INDEX mode has been changed to a "update per date" mode, because the INDEX is ready.
There are six parts now. With the expansion the index is prepared for the next 100 pages or even for 7000+ names. A new last part is for the many photo/id threads outside this sticky which I will gather all bit by bit.
I have a few pics left out from the requests with intention. These are special cases or issues which will be re-asked one by one next. There surely are a few omissions and several double postings not yet captioned.
Don't forget the unidentified section, dear colleagues. Don't hesitate to point to an error on the index and if it's a doubt only.
Thanks and regards
Bernd

Re: Knight's Cross Holders Identification
Dear Bernd,
Thanks for your words. You're very kind. I got a lot of historical information on this page and I think it is my duty to help in any way possible. In this case I am very interested in identifying general Germans, and especially their medals.
Anyway, I will try to answer your questions.
A) Model and Zorn on the back seat (my fault!!!). I do not know who is the man on the front seat.
B) Seidemann. Well...I´m sure 100%. And, yes he looks a very old man for your age.
C) Walter Fromm. Why I think this officer is Fromm? Very simple. Three reasons: his hair and his face, his ribbon bar and it what appears to be a spanienkreuz in his right pocket (see the pic to compare).

By the way, I send you a pic (Bundeswehrarchiv) of General der Infanterie Schack as Kommandeur der 272. Infanterie-Division (with the arm raised) with Rommel on the Atlantikwall (date: 1944)

At last, here you have a new IDs:
Page 131: Generalleutnant Heinrich GREINER (Kluge and who); Generalmajor der Luftwaffe Carl-August SCHUMACHER (Svg1.JPG).
Page 132: Generalmajor der Luftwaffe Carl-August SCHUMACHER (scan008.jpg...the same pic, too much better quality).
Page 134: Generaladmiral Otto SCHNIEWIND and Korvettenkapitän Kalus FELDT on the back seat (Schniewindt.JPG).
Page 153: Generalleutnant Theodor Freiherr von WREDE (unkngen3.jpg).
Page 188: GÖRING, WILKE, GRAUTING and Generaloberst der Luftwaffe Bruno LOERZER (IMAGE0023.JPG ).
My best regards,
Gregg.

Hello, Bernd,
On Page 14, Unknown_5 and unknown_4 are photos of Johann Biehl, if these have not been indentified before.
Hope this helps.
