Re: Knight's Cross Holders Identification
Hello, Bernd,
Just a comment concerning your request for a confirmation of the photo on Page 197 regarding the award of the KC to Michael Fischer on the left and the Hauptmann on his left which has been id'd as Will Haegele.
Michael Fischer was awarded the KC on 8 Apr 1943. Presumably, this depiction is an accurate representation of that award ceremony, since he is shown shortly after being awarded the decoration.
According to Fellgiebel and von Seemen, it would be impossible for that officer on his left to be Willi Haegele, since he was awarded the KC on 30 Oct 1944. I would suggest it to be someone other than Willi Haegele, because it would be an impossibility for Willi Haegele to be wearing the Knight's Cross a full year before he had been awarded the decoration.
Just an observation, and request your thoughts.
Take care.
Terry

Re: Knight's Cross Holders Identification
Hi Terry,
Yes, exactly the same I have in mind about this case. The irritation (mine at least) is caused by the potential id of Hägele I think. So, we can view at this and make assumptions and draw conclusions, all this from different angles - minimum three results we should have right now :
Willi Hägele , page 138 / index - this is him for sure. There is a similar photo without visor cap he usually signed. (I know of)
Whereas on the photo in question (page 197) : left : Michael Fischer - right : ?? - it is not him on the right. Left side it is Michael Fischer for sure.
As well as it is Michael Fischer in these two other pics from the same series. I agree that this has to be the award ceremony in April (May perhaps) 1943.
Michael Fischer - early shot, the presentation
2 - Michael Fischer - framed by three RKT
The re-newed question is : who are the three others ? What Flak-Rgt. !?
I./Flak-Rgt. 14 (Fischer) was in Northern Russia since Sep 1942, assigned to Flak-Rgt. 18 (Stab) / 6. Flak-Division. The ceremony looks like carried out back home in a garrison.
The only other I./14 KC Holder is Ogefr. Schulte, 6/42. Also under the leading staff of Flak-Rgt. 18 during the fitting time period were : II./36 , I./64 , I./501 , and le.Abt. 75. (could be one explanantion, that former RKT of those other Abteilungen took part in this ceremony (?)).
Best regards
Bernd

page 240 : 3219137.jpg
..should be Helmut Thumm . Facial features match, award clasp matches, decorated by Karl Allmendinger, Kdr. 5. Inf.Div., Kdr. still ! Inf.Rgt. 56 = no "Jäger" badge on upper right arm, the only higher officer fitting to 5. ID + Allmendinger.
