Matt Gibbs,

You seem to be some sort of authority on the APB. I had a member of this forum contact me about my grandfather (I inquired on this forum on help finding info about his service in Croatia and Russia/Poland), I have uncovered, with the (stubborn) aid of family and two members on this forum, some very interesting documents, pictures and a badge that you may be very interested in seeing.

I do not want to publicly post the name of my Grandfather on a public forum, especially given the nature of the information (I'm scared, nervous, and embarrassed  ), please contact me at:

[email protected] or by PM.

Thank you,

~Heinz V.

I'm also looking for men, who were recommended for award, but they didn't get it or there is no other evidence if they got it later.

Regards,
Klemen

No indication in his SS-Personalakte that Dr. jur. Hermann Behends received the Bandenkampfabzeichen. His SS file indicates he received the Infanterie-Sturmabzeichen (unknown if bronze or silver) at some point during his Waffen-SS reserve service, but if he got the APB the award was not annotated in his file.

Best,
~ Mike

more BKA info

Post by JoeW » 24 Jun 2004 19:11

For the record, the gold BKA awards were made on February 11 at Himmler's Feldkommandostelle at Birkenwald. The 16 gold CCC awards mentioned in the same VB article were made February 16 along with some sniper awards. Again, the presentation was made at the Feldkommandostelle at Birkenwald.

Do you perhaps have any of those names (from all 3 groups (BKA, CCC, Scharfschütze))?

names

Post by JoeW » 28 Jun 2004 16:24

The award ceremony on Feb.11th was the one reported in the later issue of VB. Kühbandner, Prasch, Ludl and Brauer were honored. Afterwards, those four joined Himmler for lunch.

The report of the Feb 16 ceremony for CCC and Snipers did not give a listing of specific names.

But Himmler did entertain five Snipers on Jan 7th for lunch.

Don't we all?

On the first post on this thread you'll find a list of so far known BKA-Holders and their units.

Klemen
