Hi Matt,

what we are trying to do here since July is said here on page 19

You might have missed that ; the posting by Bergmolch was a reply to a question by Shawn (the post before).

Best regards
Bernd

Martin Rieder, provided by Bergmolch with Geb.Jäg.Btl. 100 (per Soldbuch) I had incorrectly listed -> Geb.Jäg.Rgt. 100 / 5. Geb.Div.
I've corrected that mistake as it is Res.Geb.Jäg.Btl. 100 / 157. Geb.Div. (former 157. Res.Div.).

Transferred to France with the reserve troops of 157. Res.Div. this battalion was used to form I./GJR 296 in Sep/Oct 1944, but apparently was renamed later [in Jan 45 first per Tessin]. As we see, the old stamp was used at least.

With Rieder and Lizius there are now two of that division with award date 15.12.1944 . There should be more I presume.

You are probably correct.

RE : the Oschaf. Wittmann case
Tom,
my attempt to find some clarification for this turned out to get into a "Weites Feld" as we say in german, a subject of wide range. Just in short, I tend to say I'm near to understand it with some unclear details.
With regard to the material we are facing I tend to say (but I'm open to any correction)
1) a SS-Jäg.Rgt. 501 (or 500, or 502 later) never existed ; that were Btls. only
2) the signing by GM u. Kdr. 87. ID is irritating, but let's keep this away for a moment ; the "10./SS-Jg.Rgt." and this really seems to be the hell of a key point, after all I got now, should be a naming and/or designation for
SS-Jäger-Regiment Pannier or SS-Jäger-Regiment Bobruisk or similar
it basically should be 10. Kp of III. Btl. of SS-Feldrekruten-Depot Bobruisk / der SS-Nachschub-Kommandantur Rußland-Mitte. (which was redesignated SS-Jg.Btl. 501 later).
So, it was addressed as part of this Regiment by the doc-signing higher headquarter.
And this all should be located in the rear area of AOK 9 / HGr. Mitte ; speaking of anti-partisan actions in White Russia ("Bandenrepublik" etc.).

In another context I had a request about Sturmbannführer Beyerlein / I./SS-Jg.Btl. (later 501?).
For an overview about the units in question and a background about all the above there are active now two threads over in the SS & Polizei forum :
Need all available info on Sturmbannführer Heinrich Beyerlein
Standartenführer Rudolf Pannier
Let's see what comes out there and if it results in more clarification by the colleagues over there.

One more spot on Richard Landwehr's Siegrunen Magazine No. 46
http://www.tmhbs.com/topic_siegrunen_P1.asp
speaking of SS-Sturmjäger-Regiment "Bobruisk/Pannier" !
would be very fine if someone has access to this.

Best regards
Bernd

Thanks T.K. !

data set edited and ready now (also for those without Niemann account). Kgr. von Gottberg added by me. General der W-SS not written on the Besitzzeugnis.
Gottberg, Curt von, 15.07.1944, SS-Obergruppenführer u. General d. W-SS u. Polizei, HSSPF Rußland-Mitte und Weißruthenien [Fhr. Kgr. von Gottberg] - BKAs
[source : Besitzzeugnis, signed by Himmler , Soldbuch ; estate on sale by Niemann, Sep 08 ]
since Friday (?), not sold for only 25.000 € / 35.000 $ ? :)
btw, his first name was Curt really (Soldbuch entry, too), his signature there is Kurt. Is there anything he didn't like the soft C and his choice from some time on was the hard K ?

Best regards
Bernd

Hello Bernd,

IMO Kurt sounds more "german" than Curt.
Curt looks a bit "yankee" to me like Curtis, if you know what I mean.
Not meant to offend, of course.
