Post by Frech » 24 Dec 2014, 11:45

Gentlemen,

I have received a special Christmas gift:

two new pics of Austrians as general in the German army.

The very elusive Generalmajor Roman Sohn and one of Generalmajor Karl Klein with Zvonimir-neckorder.

Those are some superb and rare photos, Christian. Thanks for sharing them with us!

I have been tinkering again with Johann Simmler. He is undoubtedly one of the most elusive officers of the Wehrmacht I've ever encountered.

Wiener Genealogisches Taschenbuch gives: 1931 Major in Pionier–Bataillon Nr. 2
married on 13.10.1921 in Linz/Donau with Helene Maria Josefine Sidonie Zocchi von Morecci (* 25.12.1904 in Bregenz)
home address: Linz, Harrachgasse 14

Thinking about the information I have on his death: † 27.08.1947 auf dem Küstenschiff JAGUAR (source: Sammlung Dr. Horst Henrich). I haven't been able to find any ship with the name "Jaguar" that would fit. However, checking the lists with the maritime incidents from 1946 to 1948 I noticed:
HMIS Jamnagar, a coaster (Küstenschiff), sold 1947 to Yannoulatos (Far East) Ltd, Hong Kong and renamed to Hellenic Bulbul, operated as a merchant ship until she run aground and sank off the coast of Char Nizam in Bangladesh (northern Bay of Bengal) (approx. at 21°53'00.0"N 90°48'00.0"E) on 29.08.1948.
The ship's name and the day of the sinking are indeed different, but experience shows that many data from the "Sammlung Henrich" were copied from handwritten remarks (an early example of this was the town of Neugermering which was given as "Naugerming").

Could this hypothesis be true? Unfortunately I don't know where else to look. But if that's the case, a former German General who, after the war, worked as a mariner and drowned off the coast of Bangladesh, would be an indeed unique case.

Merry Christmas to all!

Jake

Dr. Julius Lücker - Armeeintendant?

#546

Post by Frech » 13 Jan 2015, 17:21

Gentlemen!

I wonder if anybody could provide some Information about Dr. Julius Lücker.

I have:
Lücker Julius Dr. (12.04.1887 – 13.04.1957)
KuK:
01.08.1914 Oberleutnant (IR 74)
ÖBH1:
01.07.1915 (RDA) Militärintendanturkommissär
14.07.1927 Militärintendaturoberkommissär
17.01.1931 Militärintendanturrat
01.01.1936 Oberstleutnantintendant
01.01.1938 Oberstintendant
DWM:
Armeeintendant!!!
EKO.3.X, MVK.3.X, MVK.3.X (n.), SMVM.X, BMVM.X, KTK, VerwM1, ÖKM.X

I would like to proof wether he became Armeeintendant (which would have been Generalintendant or Generalstabsintendant) or not. My source is his nekrology in "Mitteilungsblätter des Vereins Alt-Neustadt, Jg. 1957".

Kindest regards

Christian

Christian,

This document from 1944 with handwritten notations until at least the end of March 1945 shows Dr. Lücker still as an Oberstintendant (1.3.38 1). It does not appear that he was promoted to Generalintendant.

In the posted bio of Roman Sohn, there seems to be another typo. He surely was promoted to GM before his retirement, so it should probably be 01.09.1941.

(By the way, at least as far as I know, he was the last general officer who got a Charakter promotion).

This is strange. My last Char. Promotions I have in my files are dated NOV. 1940. This is in accordance what our fellow member Glenn2438 wrote some years ago in this forum:
Use of the charakterisierte Dienstgrade was abolished on 4 December 1940 "for the duration of the war".
So it appears quite doubtful if the 01.02.1941 Char. Promotion of Sohn is correct. Maybe it should read FEB 1940 ...

Before Sohn, I have Walter Schmid-Dankwart as Char. GL 01.12.1940. This would still fit with Glenn's info. But it really seems as if there is something wrong with Sohn. Maybe Frech could check his source?

I have checked my source. The "char. GenMjr"-entry with 01.02.1941 has its origin by Keilig, Generale.

And I have checked the abolition of the "Charakterisierungen" with 05.12.1940 too by Stumpf, Die Wehrmacht-Elite. It´s correct.

So it can´t be that Sohn became char. GenMjr with 01.02.1941. Rethinking the hole problem I would mean that a Charakterisierung for Sohn would not have been necessary anyway. He had a Dienststellung as Arko, later as Kommandeur of a Feldzeugkommando and thus he could get a regular Patent as Generalmajor.

Dieter, what do you think?

I'm confused too: Into the bargain "Sammlung Krug" announces the same as Keilig
01.02.1941 Charakter als Generalmajor erhalten
01.09.1941 Generalmajor

Why two dates in case that he never got the "Charakter" ?!?

Dieter
