Theodor Heinzmann in 1938

Post by askropp » 28 Oct 2015 10:31

According to "Die Generale des Heeres" and the info in this thread, Theodor Heinzmann was an ÖBH officer of General rank (first Generalbaurat, then Ingenieurgeneral) who was taken over by the Wehrmacht and retired on 31.10.1938. But he is not in the 01.08.1938 DAL of former Austrian officers. As the Wehrmacht knew neither Generalbauräte nor Ingenieurgenerale, his title and status must have changed in March 1938. And as he is not among the Generalstabs- und Truppenoffiziere, maybe he was transferred to the Wehrmachtbeamten?

@Aisin: there is not much about his Military career because he was Reserve-Offizier.

Some in Wiki: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Max_Egon_ ... Crstenberg

But: great pic as Heeresoffizier in WW2.

some new dates for Fürstenberg:

01.11.1892 Oberleutnant im Verhältnis der Evidenz der Landwehr, Ldw-Ulanen-Reg. 5
01.05.1899 Rittmeister (i.V.d.E.d.Ldw.)
01.05.1913 Major i.d.Res.
01.05.1915 Oberstleutnant i.d.R.
__.__.____ Oberst mit Titel und Charge
02.04.1918 Generalmajor a.D.

And now it´s evident: the 1st pic uploaded by Aisin cannot be Maximilian Fürstenberg!!! Fürstenberg was born in 1863 and would not have seen active duty in WW2 with age of almost 80 years. AND: he died on 11.08.1941 - so he could not have owned the Ostmedaille!!!

That opens a new question: who is the man on this pic?

It would be possible it´s the son of Egon: Karl Egon V. von Fürstenberg (1891 - 1973):

I also found info on Dr. Pindur:

31.05.1939 retired mit dem Charakter als Generalveterinär (as of 01.06.1939)
Retired Truppenoffiziere were all placed on z.V. immediately in 1939, but I found no notice of Pindur, so maybe he was only placed z.V. in August.

Österreichs Generale im Deutschen Heer 1938

Post by askropp » 09 Nov 2015 17:19

For my list of German Generals 1933-1939, I need a compilation of the ÖBH generals who were transferred into the Wehrmacht without RDA in 1938. As the first German RDAs I know of were awarded on 01.04.1938, in fact all ÖBH generals who were transferred on 15.03.1938 or were recalled from retirement a short time later should belong to that list. Generally, those officers got their Austrian date of rank as "ernannt" date until they got a German RDA, but some retired and some died without ever receiving one.

Those are the officers I know of:
(Sources: "Die Generale des Heeres" = DGdH, Dienstaltersliste der Generalstabs- und Truppenoffiziere des ehemaligen österreichischen Bundesheeres vom 01.08.1938 = DALÖ, Dienstaltersliste zur Stellenbesetzung des Heeres vom 10.11.1938 = DAL 1938)

General der Kavallerie
29.01.1934 Theodor Brantner - retired without RDA on 31.05.1938

Generalleutnante
22.12.1936 Eugen Beyer - promoted to GdI mit RDA vom 01.04.1938 (3)
22.12.1936 Johann Kubena - got RDA of 01.04.1938 (6a)
22.12.1936 Karl Leitner - got RDA of 01.06.1938 (5)
01.01.1938 Theodor Haselmayr Edler von Fernstein - retired without RDA on 31.10.1938

Generalmajore
24.10.1932 Mauritz von Wiktorin - reactivated in March 1938 and promoted to GL mit RDA vom 01.04.1938 (7)
25.03.1933 Theodor Heinzmann - Ingenieurgeneral, retired without RDA on 31.10.1938 (according to DGdH, but missing in DALÖ)
22.11.1933 Ernst Walter - got RDA of 01.10.1937 (25)
26.01.1934 Heinrich Stümpfl - got RDA of 01.08.1936 (2a)
26.01.1934 Emmerich von Nagy - reactivated in March 1938, got RDA of 01.04.1939 (12)
25.06.1935 Valentin Feurstein - got RDA of 01.04.1939 (13)
25.06.1935 Friedrich Materna - got RDA of 01.04.1938 (21a)
25.06.1935 Emil Hickmann - retired without RDA on 31.05.1938
24.12.1935 Franz Boehme - got RDA of 01.04.1938 (21b)
24.12.1935 Paul Ritter von Wittas - retired without RDA on 31.10.1938
24.12.1935 Alfred Ritter von Hubicki - got RDA of 01.10.1938 (12)
24.12.1935 Emil Kern - retired without RDA on 30.04.1938
22.06.1936 Alois Veselý - retired without RDA (probably on 31.05.1938)
22.12.1936 Adalbert von Schmidt - retired without RDA on 31.10.1938
22.12.1936 Ernst Hammer - got RDA of 01.10.1938 (11)
26.06.1937 Friedrich Moro - died without RDA on 06.01.1940
26.06.1937 Johann Hinterleitner - retired without RDA on 31.10.1938 (according to DGdH, but missing in DALÖ)
26.06.1937 Johann Janusz - retired without RDA on 30.04.1938
26.06.1937 Karl Bornemann - retired without RDA on 31.07.1938
01.01.1938 Moritz Basler - got RDA of 01.08.1941 (12), but died on 13.07.1941
01.01.1938 Marian von Wessely - retired without RDA (allegedly on 31.12.1938, but missing in DAL 1938)
01.01.1938 Johann Glasner - got RDA of 01.06.1939 (12)
01.01.1938 Anton Pohl - retired without RDA (probably on 31.10.1938)
01.01.1938 Karl Moyses - got RDA of 01.08.1936 (2b)

Generalarzt
01.01.1938 Raimund Zamponi - got RDA of 01.01.1938 (2)

We could argue that Heinzmann as a former Generalbaurat / Ingenieurgeneral was neither a Generalstabs- nor a Truppenoffizier and is thus missing from DALÖ, but the absence of Hinterleitner probably means he retired before 01.08.1938, and Wessely (who was placed on z.V.) probably before 10.11.1938. Of course Heinzmann could also have retired earlier.

Is any officer missing from this list, or are there any errors?

As I understand it, another three possible candidates could be Karl Premitzer, Franz Rainer and Gustav Wayer Edler von Stromwell. But there seems to be little info on them.

The only thing I would consider is keeping them in the order as shown in the Austrian rank lists. They did not have seniority numbers, therefore the exact listing is vital. For example: Feurstein is ahead of Materna (Friedrich), Bornemann is ahead of Ing. Moro. The 01.01.1938 order was Basler, v. Wessely, Glasner, Ing. Pohl.

To have a quick overview you can have a look on Glenn´s excellent page, which shows the correct rank order:
