NKSiG winners

#1473

Post by copiloto » 16 Sep 2007, 18:16

Hello.
I have found more winners that are not listed in this thread.
Ottmann, Werner, Award date unknwon, SS-Hauptsturmführer d.R., SS-Panzergrenadier-Bataillon 506/6.SS-Gebirgs-Division "Nord"
Source: http://www.ww2awards.com/person/9001
Porsch, Frithjof-Elmo, 8-8-1943, SS-Untersturmführer, SS-Panzerjagd-Kompanie Dora II
Source: http://www.ww2awards.com/person/9027
Timm, Peter W., Award date unknwon, SS-Untersturmführer, SS-Fallschirmjäger-Bataillon 500
Source: http://www.ww2awards.com/person/9197
I have found next discrepancy in the award date:
Jöres, Walter, 24-1-1945, Major, Kampfgruppe 1. Infanterie-Division
Source: http://www.ww2awards.com/person/8864

In the 13-9-2007 at 19:28h, I wrote:

Hello.
I am not able to find what division these two NKSiG winners were attached:
Gössmann, Franz, 1-2-1945, Oberfeldwebel, 2. / Grenadier- Regiment 199 "List"
Source: http://www.ww2awards.com/person/5267

Kaiser, Andreas, 1-2-1945, Unteroffizier, 8./Grenadier-Regiment 199 "List"
Source: http://www.ww2awards.com/person/8871

I have doubts about 57.Infanterie-Division, Korps-Abteilung G or 299.Infanterie-Division, although I would bet 299.ID for the award date.
What do you think?

Best regards.
Jordi
Besides I haven't found them in this thread so I miss them as NKSiG winners.

Best regards.
Jordi

He is listed in the latest edition of Dörr:

Close Combat Clasp in Gold
Ottmann, Werner, 00.04.1945, SS-Hstuf., Kdr. SS-Pz.Gren.Btl. 506

Note this is correct spelling of his last name - I might have omitted an "n" in his DKiG listing.

Best regards,
Shawn

RE :
Porsch, Frithjof-Elmo, 8-8-1943, SS-Untersturmführer, SS-Panzerjagd-Kompanie Dora II
Source: http://www.ww2awards.com/person/9027
Page 99 of the thread and Porsch appears.. :) Well, the issue is raised once, let's treat it calmly and objectively like all the stuff.
The fact that Porsch is listed on ww2awards and is asked here by Jordi is a proof that the whole matter is an obstinate phenomen / myth / issue.

1) a sample of what is written / available on him out of many stuff ; everyone can take the info and draw his own conclusions :
German wikipedia entry, pro his story / claims : http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frithjof_Elmo_Porsch
Ingo Petersson homepage (take a look in the guestbook with many pro and contra) : http://www.zbv500.de.vu/
AHF threads :
Porsch : http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?t=85408
Btl 500 : http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?t=73703
Ingo Peterssen : http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?t=80077
Feldgrau, RE: SS-Sturm-Btl 500 : http://www.feldgrau.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=128771&
another board discussion with hard facts / research : http://forum.balsi.de/index.php?action= ... replies=27

2) The facts about his awards I'm aware / result of the above material :
Only EK1 is confirmed. No official records about any other award. Not listed in serious / latest publications.

3) Two points I noticed which would be (minimum) my arguments that Porsch / Peterssen did write fiction based on his experiences as a young W-SS soldier he in fact was and that the awards he claimed to have received are totally unlogical and unconfirmed.

a) NKiG, 8-8-1943, SS-Panzerjagd-Kompanie Dora II
the unit didn't exist in 1943 ! ; in 1945, if so

b) Re: SS-Sturm-Btl 500 ; the unit as described by Peterssen/Porsch is not confirmed as to have existed in this way. It is unclear (to me) wether eventually "SS-Fsch.Jäg.Btl 500" is meant (or is meant to be the base of the fictional story). One detail which appears : 100+ NKiG holders in his unit is absolutely impossible IMO after all I learned from examinating awards ; take the life expectancy of a frontline soldier and the statiscial chance to have 100+ of men with 50 Nahkampftage within one unit ! Look at any other unit for comparisn.
Take a look here (outstanding contribution by Charles Trang) : RFSS-Sondertruppen 500 series, original documents, oct 1944 and feb 1945 (Stand: 1.3.45) ; no SS-Sturm-Btl 500
http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?t=120816

So, as long as no proofs are provided Porsch won't be listed here.

RE : NKiG points of notice by Jordi

Jöres, 1. Inf.Div : listed per Dörr (though it could be a typo (?) ; let's go with Dörr then)
Ottmann, SS-Pz.Gren.Btl 506 / 6. SS-Geb.Div "Nord" : added and corrected
Porsch : see above
Timm, SS-Fsch.Jäg.Btl 500 : I take it, he is not confirmed by Dörr ; so, no listing, or is any other base available ?

Gössmann and Kaiser, GR 199 "List" : hm, good point, Jordi
Late award date (Shawn, confirmed by Dörr ?)
GR 199 "List" end of unit history in june 1944 with 57. Inf.Div ; wasn't reformed and 299. Inf.Div had 500er Rgts.
I take it they had 50 Nahkampftage in summer 1944 already and this was noticed later (remember the Konopka case). As I see no other conclusion / possibility I tend to list them with 57. Inf.Div.

RE :
Sturmgeschütz-Abteilung / -Brigade 270

German Cross in Gold
Bergholz, Karl, 19.12.1943, Major, Stu.Gesch.Abt. 270
Kaulbars, Joachim, 03.08.1943, Leutnant, 1./Stu.Gesch.Abt. 270
Kessler, Gottfried, 26.11.1943, Leutnant d.R., 3./Stu.Gesch.Abt. 270
Kupczyk, Richard, 23.05.1944, Oberwachtmeister, 3./Stu.Gesch.Brig. 270
Westerkamp, Otto, 03.01.1944, Wachtmeister, 2./Stu.Gesch.Abt. 270
Bergholz, Kessler and Westerkamp are listed with 1. Skijäger-Brigade [page 11].
We had it with the review of this unit : Stug.Abt 270 permanently assigned since sept 1943 (until 02.06.1944 = redesignation -> 1. Skijäger-Div ; later renamed "152").
So, if I'm correct, Kupczyk is to add (missed by V.S.)
Kaulbars to list with the (independent) Abt. then.

Hello! Does anyone know what higher headquarters this German Cross in Gold holder should be counted with?

Abendroth von, Ferdinand, 03.08.1943, Oberleutnant, 1./Pz.Abt. 301

Best regards,
Shawn

Bernd,
Gössmann and Kaiser, GR 199 "List" : hm, good point, Jordi
Late award date (Shawn, confirmed by Dörr ?)
GR 199 "List" end of unit history in june 1944 with 57. Inf.Div ; wasn't reformed and 299. Inf.Div had 500er Rgts.
I take it they had 50 Nahkampftage in summer 1944 already and this was noticed later (remember the Konopka case). As I see no other conclusion / possibility I tend to list them with 57. Inf.Div.
Good catch by Jordi – both appear in the 2006 edition of Dörr:

Gössmann, Franz, 01.02.1945, Oberfeldwebel, Zugfhr. 2./Gren.Rgt. 199 “List” (He received his DKiG and Knight’s Cross with this regiment in 57. Inf.Div.)

Kaiser, Andreas, 01.02.1945, Unteroffizier, Gruppenfhr. 8./Gren.Rgt. 199 “List”

I agree with your assessment that these were likely late awards that were finally noticed in early 1945 after the debacle of Hgr. Mitte in the summer of 1944.

Of note, the addendum in the back of Scheibert’s DKiG book has two late awards for soldiers of Inf.Rgt. 199 that we’ve counted provisionally with the 57. Inf.Div.: Inkmann and Rader. Also, note the late award of the EBS to Heß.

Best regards,
Shawn
