Here are the last of the German holders of the Romanian Order of Michael the Brave with questionable and/or incomplete information. Perhaps we can hash these gentlemen out in the future.

Best regards,
Shawn

RE : Gerstenberg added to [page 82]
Don't know at the moment if the "Attachés" officially were within the structure of the "Auswärtiges Amt" ; listing under the header "Attachés" should be okay and this could develop into a field of many different foreign awards. Let's go on with this section as a bonus.

RE : Ritter von Eberlein : age of 65 , it does fit !

RE : thanks Shawn for the list of the questionable Michael the Brave recipients ; let's see if we can find some names within other lists.

additions (still evaluating the overall OL list) :

Festung [page 56] :
Fürstenberg / Oder
Oakleaves
Kedzia, Ernst-Georg, 23.03.1945 [794. EL], Major, Kampfkommandant von Fürstenberg/Oder u Kdr Gren.Rgt 98 [Div.Stab.z.b.V. 391]
Festung Kolberg
Oakleaves
Fullriede, Fritz, 23.03.1945 [803. EL], Oberst, Kdt. Festung Kolberg

Festung Schneidemühl

Two men of the recently provided Lehr units added. Also precised in [ ] for KC holder Iden -> 3./Stug.Lehr.Brig 111
Done by using this excellent panzer-archiv.de Festungs thread :
http://forum.panzer-archiv.de/viewtopic ... 3b4d254d5b

of note : unit designation "in einer St.Gesch.Brg." written on Iden's vorläufigem Besitzzeugnis ; Graf Dohna -> "Sturmartillerie..."
So, if we struggle with unit designations today (unless we notice real mistakes) it comes from they did in 1945 too !
German Cross in Gold
Dohna Graf zu, Konstantin, 10.02.1945, Hauptmann, 3./Stu.Art.Lehr-Brig. 111
["Stug.Abt. Graf Dohna"]

Army Honor Roll Clasp
Schmeller, Ludwig, 25.02.1945, Hauptmann, 3./Art.Lehr-Rgt. (mot) 5

Please, all, help me to finish the review of the following divisions.

129. Infanterie-Division [page 13] / fine

131. Infanterie-Division [page 13]
Geisler, Gerhard, 29.02.1944, Hauptmann, Div.Pz.Jäg.Kp. 131
Krohe, Rudolf, 29.02.1944, Unteroffizier, Div.Pz.Jäg.Kp. (m) 131
DKiG ; unit correct, only 1 Kp. at this time ; I will cross out the "(m)"
Weber, Dr. Gerauld, 02.06.1944, Stabsarzt d.R., 1./Chirurg.San.Kp. 1/131
DKiS ; first name ? unit designation ? "1/131" is "1./"

132. Infanterie-Division [page 13]
Finsterlin Ritter von, Ludwig, 12.03.1942, Major d.R., II./Inf.Rgt. 438
DKiG ; of note : WW1, MMJO :
Ritter von Finsterlin, Ludwig
geb.: 09. 08. 1895 Kimratshofen/ Allgäu
Leutnant
Adjutant I./ 4. bayerisches Infanterieregiment
Kämpfe am Rigaer Meerbusen am 10. 09. 1917

79. Infanterie-Division / 79. Volks-Grenadier-Division [page 15] / fine

246. Infanterie-Division [page 15] / fine

246. Volks-Grenadier-Division [page 15]
Question: I take it Bomnüter of Luftwaffen-Festungs-Bataillon XVIII is listed correctly with this division?
Bomnüter, Otto, 22.03.1945, Hauptmann, Lw.Fest.Btl. XVIII
DKiG ; should be listed as attached to 116. Pz.Div
Tessin : * sept 1944 at Aussig ; transfered to AOK 7, Hürtgenwald ; entry on my cd : attached to "116. Feldzeug-Division" ; is a typo as such a division didn't exist ; has to be 116. PD , surely correct transcription here :
http://www.ww2.dk/ground/infanterie/lfb18.htm
the integration into an Inf.Div lateron is a bit unclear to me as there are different infos on different entries by Tessin ; but the troops got the unit designation of the new headquarter division then.

Thanks, Bernd

Lw.Fest.Btl. XVIII
According to my notes on the LW-FestBtle. (a Thread on this units on PA) this one was formed out of LwPiErsBtl. 1 and was later integrated into 275.ID. It was LWFestgsBtl XIX which was attached too 116.PD temporarly and later integrated into 246.ID as FEB ..

Bernd,

Krohe – Agree with dropping the (m).

Weber – Name as written in Scheibert. Upon rechecking, I see the unit is actually written as such: 1.Chirurg San.Kp. 1/131. I believe this makes more sense, 1st Surgeon of San.Kp. 1/131.

Speaking of Ritter von Finsterlin, here is his citation from Bayerns Goldenes Ehrenbuch. Den Inhaber der höchsten bayerischen Kriegsauszeichnungen aus dem Weltkrieg 1914/1918 (Bayerisches Kriegsarchiv, 1928).

Best regards,
Shawn

Please, all, help me to finish the review of the following divisions, all [page 16] http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... 268#989268

167. Infanterie-Division / 167. Volks-Grenadier-Division / fine

268. Infanterie-Division
Huber, Johann, 14.04.1943, Oberleutnant d.R., 3./Pz.Jäg.Btl. 268
DKiG ; I will change the unit designation -> "Abt."
Kujer, Ernst, 13.02.1944, Fw., 7./Kampfbtl. 488
DKiG ; of note : correct ; discussed earlier concerning Weitkunat (Reste GR 488)
Seider, Richard, 25.10.1943 (2333), Oberwachtmeister, Scherenfernrohr-Uffz. 6./Art.Rgt. 268
AU ; of note

330. Infanterie-Division
Geißler, Otto, 25.03.1944, Major d.R., I./Gren.Rgt. 555
Gruttke, Alfred, 12.05.1944, Leutnant, 7./Gren.Rgt. 555

Reschke, Kurt, 11.04.1944, Oberstleutnant i.G., Ia 330. Inf.Div.
DKiG ; late awards for GR 555 / 330. ID or with Div.Grp 330 / 342. Inf.Div already ; Reschke (in april 1944 !) is clear ; suggest to list them with 330. ID

376. Infanterie-Division
Anhalt, Georg, 29.01.1945, Hauptmann, II./Gren.Rgt. 315
Dümpel, Friedrich-Otto, 05.03.1945, Leutnant d.R., Gren.Rgt. 315
Menz, Jürgen, 05.02.1945 (5179), Major, Kdr. IV./Art.Rgt. 376
Schäffler, Alfred, 25.02.1945 (5493), Leutnant, 10./Art.Rgt. 376
DKiG , EBS, AU ; rather late awards ; units not reformed after aug 1944
März, August, 02.07.1944, Hauptmann d.R., Div.Gruppe 167
DKiG ; correct , ex 167. ID , renamed GR 315 on 27.07.1944

85. Infanterie-Division / 159. Infanterie-Division / fine

82. Infanterie-Division
Beiss (also seen as Beiß or Beihs), Karl, 04.05.1944, Hauptmann d.R., Btl.Kdr. II./Gren.Rgt. 166
NKiG , DKiG ; not sure if we got him listed via Dörr, 4th ed. ; name cleared perhaps ?

RE : post 10 may 1944 award dates ; tend to keep them listed as they are shortly after the Divs dissolution

169. Infanterie-Division
Büttner, [first name not listed], 12.07.1941 (107), Leutnant, Pz.Abt. 211
AU ; Heerestruppe with XXXVI. Geb.AK ; agree to list, adding [attached] will do it ?

189. Infanterie-Division
SS - Regiment "Sattler" (from SS-Unterführerschule Radolfzell ; subordinated) :
5. Sattler, Karl 16.01.1945 SS-Sturmbannführer Führer SS-Rgt "Sattler"
KC ; listed per manuscript Miller ; header "attached" (not counting) will do it ?

91. (LL) Infanterie-Division
Question: Fallschirmjäger-Regiment 6 was attached to the division during the Normandy campaign. Should any “lesser awards” of the regiment earned during the period 6 Jun 1944 to 10 Aug 1944 (dissolution of division) be counted with the 91. Inf.Div.?
agree, it would be favourable. DDD list on [page 46] ; we can try to pick them out, could be a bit difficult I guess.
If I'm correct three KCs were earned for Cherbourg (the retreat) :
Uhlig, Alexander 29.10.1944 Oberfeldwebel Zugführer i. d. 16./Fsch.Jäg.Rgt 6
Mager, Rolf 31.10.1944 Hauptmann Kdr II./Fsch.Jäg.Rgt 6
Peitsch, Herbert 29.10.1944 Gefreiter Schütze i. d. 7./Fsch.Jäg.Rgt 6

Thanks, Bernd

Bernd,

Huber – Agree with changing “Btl.” to “Abt.” It was my typo – listed as “Abt.” in Scheibert!

330. Inf.Div. – Agree with leaving 3 DKiG holders in question with division.

Menz – AU date/place of action: 24.08.-02.09.1944, vom Pruth bis Kommando [suggest leaving with 376. Inf.Div.]

Schäffler – AU date/place of action: 22.08.-05.09.1944, zw. Vulpesti und Commando [suggest leaving with 376. Inf.Div.]

Beiss (also seen as Beiß or Beihs) – Still listed as such in 2006 edition of Dörr.

Büttner – Suggest leaving with 169. Inf.Div. with notation [attached].

Sattler – Suggest leaving with 189. Inf.Div. with notation [attached].

99. (LL) Inf.Div. – Sounds great! We will have to rely on the DDD list for DKiG holders as Scheibert, in most cases, does not list specific units with the Luftwaffe DKiG holders; only generic designations are given, i.e., “Batterieführer in einem Flakregiment,” Zugführer in einem Fallschirmjägerregiment,” “Fleugzeugführer in einem Jagdgeschwader,” etc.

Best regards,
Shawn

Here are a few additions for Alarmeinheiten and related units.

If I’m not mistaken, the EBS recipients Eberwein, Lippert, and Orf probably received their awards for action at Arnhem in Sep 1944 while subordinated to Kampfgruppe / Division von Tettau.

Best regards,
Shawn
