Good morning dear colleagues.
After the last updates for EBS with the addition of Teodors Kalnajs and for NKiG with the Scheierer/Schoirer case, if I haven't missed any datum crossed out in this thread the total amount of awarded soldiers is:
NKiG 630 soldiers
EBS Heer 4525 soldiers
EBS KM 40 soldiers
You are making a great work here.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all !
Enjoy this night.

Best regards.

Hi Jordi and all, Happy New Year ! :D

Thanks for keeping an eye on the numbers and statistics. Could be an interesting field in general and in particular for an evaluation of the completeness. One thing for example I always noticed is the amazing under-representation of the Heer Nachrichten units.

Best regards
Bernd

On a side-step can we have some clarifications and confirmations please in the field of
Holders of the German Cross in Gold & Silver
also in connection to listings and a few omissions I noticed.
SS-Gruppenführer und Generalleutnant der Polizei Odilo Lotario Globocnik (20 Jan 1945, 7 Feb 1945)
not listed so far on [page 82] ; per ww2.awards (P/S d'accord ?)
DKiG : 07.02.1945, SS-Gruppenführer und Generalleutnant der Polizei, SS- und Polizeiführer Italien
DKiS : 20.01.1945, SS-Grufü. u. Gen.Lt. d. Pol., HSSPF Adriatisches Küstenland

Sonderführer (Kapitänleutnant) Otto Krüger (26 Oct 1944, 7 Nov 1944)
not listed ; I can't find him ; and I can't identify him in the group of the Krüger, Otto, as listed on ww2.awards ; is it eventually ?
Seetransportchef Norwegen
German Cross in Silver (2)
Krüger, Karl, 17.01.1945, Sonderführer (Kapitänleutnant), Seetransportchef Norwegen
Generalmajor Erwin Edler von Vivremont Lahousen (15 Sep 1943, 20 July 1944)
is listed with the DKiG on the 21. Feld-Div. (L) list
Lahousen (Edler von Vivremont), Erwin, 20.07.1944, Oberst, Jäg.Rgt. 41 (L)
if there is no objection I will add like it was provided by Shawn once per Bradley
- Kdr.
- [Führerreserve HGr. Nord, zugleich kommandiert zum Gren.Rgt. 96 zur Einarbeitung als Rgts.Kdr. ; Kdr. des Jg.Rgts. 41]

Konteradmiral z.V. Dr. jur. Paul Meixner (6 June 1942, 11 Feb 1943)
is listed :
Deutsche Seetransportstellen Nordafrika
German Cross in Gold (1)
Meixner, Dr. jur. Paul, 11.02.1943, Sonderführer (Kapitän zur See z.V.), Chef d. dt. Seetransportstellen Nordafrika
German Cross in Silver (1)
Meixner, Dr. jur. Paul, 06.06.1942, Korvettenkapitän z.V., Chef d. dt. Seetransportstellen Nordafrika
can we have a re-check please concerning the DKiG rank ?
Sonderführer (Kapitän zur See z.V.) and not still Korvettenkapitän z.V. ?

Konteradmiral (Ing.) Paul-Willy Zieb (18 May 1944, 28 Sep 1944)
is listed with the DKiS only
Zieb, Paul-Willy, 18.05.1944, Konteradmiral (Ing.), Chef Oberwerftstab Schwarzes Meer
is it for the DKiG the same rank and position, with date "28.09.1944" ?

Please take a look also on the follow-up to the small KC special, a compilation of DKiG Holders of Germany's Allies
expansion / under construction :

German Cross in Gold Holders of Germany's Allies

under construction on base of the following material :
AHFactbook page Foreign Holders of the DKiG
Italian RKT
DKiG for foreigners
Finnish recipients of the DKiG
ww2.awards data sets (on base of Patzwall/Scherzer, DKiG)
Veit Scherzer, Die Träger des Deutschen Kreuzes in Gold der Luftwaffe 1941-1945, Bayreuth 1992
and several personal Bio threads checked
http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... 21#p985421
More eyes to look on the preliminary list and assistance to fill the gaps and to check the compleness and accuracy is much appreciated.

This Hungarian man isn't listed in the thread. Award confirmed ?
Waffen-Hauptsturmführer der SS György vités Hermándy-Berencz, 23.03.1945, Kdr. IV./Ungarisches Waffen-Alarm-Rgt. der SS / 26. Waffen-Gren.Div. "Hungaria" ??

Regarding Zieb, per Scheibert:

Konteradmiral (Ing.) Paul-Willy Zieb

German Cross in Gold: 28.09.1944, Konteradmiral (Ing.), [per Scheibert, his post is listed as Chef Oberwerfstab Schwarzes Meer; however, per the research of Michi (I think), he believes the correct post for the DKiG should be as follows: Befehlshaber der Seestreitkräfte auf der unteren Donua u. Führer Kampfgruppe Zieb. I can no longer find the detailed argument for Zieb’s DKiG being awarded for his command of the Kampfgruppe. I’m not even certain if it was on AHF. I did find a few references though (see below).]

German Cross in Silver: 18.05.1944, Konteradmiral (Ing.), Chef Oberwerfstab Adm. Schwarzes Meer

Thanks Shawn, even more ! I will pass the edited version of the DKiG/DKiS list to Marcus when we are through. I've also done some add&corr in the thread and I'm still on it waiting what we can fix for a few remaining issues.

What should be solid and I have edited the lists so far :

1) Globocnik, both crosses in position HSSPF Adriatisches Küstenland , SS- und Polizeiführer Italien most likely does originate from a mis-interpretation of Höchster SS- u. Polizeiführer Italien, the higher headquarter ; added to [page 82]

2) Zieb, the material about the Kgr. Zieb is highly interesting and convincing. I have added him with the DKiG as a sub-section below Komm.Adm. Schwarzes Meer ; added the DKiS entry to the Komm.Adm. Schwarzes Meer list, too [page 119].
Although I wouldn't rule out that his formal position Oberwerftstab Schwarzes Meer is to find nevertheless in the records.
Will be interesting to see what Patzwall/Scherzer determined finally.

3) Bader , added the DKiS data set to Armeegruppe / Armee-Abt. Hollidt [page 80], which I placed below AOK 6 now, as I take it HQu Hollidt is meant to denote that ; added a note also
Bader, Robert, 14.02.1943, Oberst i.G., HQu Hollidt [formal position : Qu AOK 6]
4) Bennecke , DKiS, is listed with Ob.Kdo. HGr. B per Scheibert, Yes ; as HGr. Süd was divided into HGr. A and B in July 1942 already and the award has to cover that time period I tend to not question this data set

Sonderführer (Kapitänleutnant) Otto Krüger
• German Cross in Gold: 07.11.1944, Sonderführer (Kapitänleutnant), Chef Netzsperrflottille Süd
• German Cross in Silver: 26.10.1944, Sonderführer (Kapitänleutnant), Netzsperrflottille [no other information listed]
added to [page 119] ; the DKiS has to be for "Süd" as well, as he hadn't another command during this time period and the command wasn't redesignated if I'm correct.

Best regards,

This case is irritating and not that clear to me. It is about his rank and his position for the DKiG. Online references provide all variations imaginable.

First, in contrast to designate a command in Singular and a more ordinary naming of a headquarter the formal designation of the NA sea transport command in fact should be Chef der (deutschen) Seetransportstellen Nordafrika
http://www.wlb-stuttgart.de/seekrieg/km ... afrika.htm
http://www.bundesarchiv.de/foxpublic/32 ... _oben.html
http://www.geocities.com/~orion47/WEHRM ... _PAUL.html
has the promotion to Kapitän zur See on 1 April 1943

So, regarding the position I conclude that Meixner at time of the DKiG was simultaneously Chef des Deutschen Marinekommandos Nordafrika ; we could add this.

The rank can't be Kapitän z.S. in Feb 43 (?) ; Meixner was Fregattenkapitän z.V. at that time (this is the rank which is given for the DKiG on marinearchiv.de for example).

Bernd,

Here is the promotion data from Meixner’s entry in Deutschlands Admirale 1849-1945, Band 2 by Hildebrand and Henriot. Note Meixner held the special rank of Sonderführer Kapitän zur See in addition to the ranks of Korvettenkapitän z.V. and Fregattenkapitän z.V. in 1942-1943. This explains the discrepancy between Meixner's ranks in Scheibert and ABR.

Best regards,
Shawn

SS-Gruppenführer und Generalleutnant der Polizei Odilo Lotario Globocnik (20 Jan 1945, 7 Feb 1945)
not listed so far on [page 82] ; per ww2.awards (P/S d'accord ?)
DKiG : 07.02.1945, SS-Gruppenführer und Generalleutnant der Polizei, SS- und Polizeiführer Italien
DKiS : 20.01.1945, SS-Grufü. u. Gen.Lt. d. Pol., HSSPF Adriatisches Küstenland
P/S gives the same data
Sonderführer (Kapitänleutnant) Otto Krüger (26 Oct 1944, 7 Nov 1944)
not listed ; I can't find him ; and I can't identify him in the group of the Krüger, Otto, as listed on ww2.awards ; is it eventually ?
Seetransportchef Norwegen
German Cross in Silver (2)
Krüger, Karl, 17.01.1945, Sonderführer (Kapitänleutnant), Seetransportchef Norwegen
P/S gives for Karl a very different unit: http://www.ww2awards.com/person/40046
Seetransportstelle Tripoilis / Trapani und Reva , would not tend to make this the same person yet
I might have mist some concluding somewhere, but he is not listed as DKiG recipient in any of the editions of P/S

Meixner: http://www.ww2awards.com/person/8152
DKiG rank Sonderführer/Kapitän zur See according to P/S

Zien:
DKiS according to P/S Konteradminral (Ing.) Oberwerfstab b. Adm. Schwarzes Meer (18.05.1944)
DKiG with the same rank and unit according to P/S and with the date mentioned

Lahousen is one 50 soldiers "credibly proven" to have been awarded the DKiG that are listed in an addendum in the back of Scheibert's Die Träger des Deutschen Kreuzes in Gold (Das Heer). The addendum is prefaced as follows:
Glaubhaft Nachgewiesen
