Best regards,

of note this very small special :

Günther Konopacki was one of the few who received all major awards !

Oakleaves [797.EL] 23.03.1945 Rittmeister Kdr I./10. Radfahr-Jäger-Brigade

Knight’s Cross : 19.12.1943 Oberleutnant Fhr Aufkl.Abt 168 / 68. Inf.Div

German Cross in Gold : 21.04.1943 Leutnant 3./Radfahr-Abt 168 / 68. Inf.Div

Army Honor Roll Clasp : 17.09.1943 Oberleutnant 3./Aufkl.Abt 168 / 68. Inf.Div

Close Combat Clasp in Gold : 17.03.1945 Rittmeister Kdr Aufkl-Lehr-Abt

The units he served with are a quite good illustration for unit designations in general as well as an example of difficulties to class a recipient to a unit which is the issue of our project :

The recon unit of 68. Infanterie-Division [source: Tessin]
Aufklärungs-Abteilung 168 (26.08.1939 - ) -> Radfahr-Abteilung 168 (03.10.1942 - ) -> Ski-Bataillon 168 (20.11.1942 - ) -> Radfahr-Abteilung 168 (16.03.1943 - ) -> Aufklärungs-Abteilung 168 (22.04.1943 - ) -> Divisions-Füsilier-Bataillon 168 (01.11.1943 - ) -> immediately renumbered Divisions-Füsilier-Bataillon (AA) 68 (AA = cavalry tradition)

Aufklärungs – Lehr – Abteilung (1)
formed november 1944 , from Aufklärungs- und Kavallerie-Schule Bromberg , 4 Schwadronen , Heerestruppe
getting I. / 10. Radfahr-Jäger-Brigade in march 1945 (?)

The OL officially awarded in position : Kdr I./10. Radf.-Jäg.Brig (ex ALA) , but for actions in January 1945 ; so, eventually to count with ALA (too)
I have not come across a precise report of Konopacki’s OL “Waffentat” ; nothing detailed in Lenfeld / Thomas, “Die Eichenlaubträger”, 1983
By a online research I found the info that the following work contains a more detailed report :
“Das Ritterkreuz”, Nr. 4 / 2005

Would be very fine if somebody could enlight his (1945 especially) Bio here.

master list - page 7 - updated

All Honor Roll Clasp lists attached to the divisions (except a few "research points")

Many divisional lists combinded: I'm using all page capacity and move the DKiG/S / NKiG / EBS lists to the KC lists on the lower pages ; same procedere the other way.

Please, all, keep an eye on the questions of the last pages !

Traditionally with the update some autographs from a personal collection, today :
Othmar Pollmann, OL holder GR 481 , GR 279
Ernst-August Krag, OL holder SS-Pz.AA 2 "Das Reich"
Heinz Rökker, OL holder Nachtjagd-Geschwader 2

Thanks and regards, Bernd

Bernd, is it possible to add complete index of units on the first post in this thread? It's easier on user.

Klemen

This note is added to the very first post by Marcus on page 1 of the thread :
The master list is to find on [page 7] of this thread. All award lists with unit / page are to find there which will allow you to navigate easily through the thread and to find the information you are looking for. / may 2007 / Bernd R
I doubt there is enough space left on page 1 for the complete master list. Another point : the post (part 1) itself is at the edge of the maximum capacity of letters. A transfer would require a complete "kill" of an existing post. So, for the moment, from both ends of the thread to click "page 7" should be an acceptable compromise, Klemen.

These will make interesting additions to the lists of divisional awards, the rare Unit-Level Awards of the Commendation Certificate of the Commander-in-Chief of the Army.

Here are the recipients of the Army Honor Roll Clasp who received their awards while assigned to the 24. Infanterie-Division.

Research Point: Based on the award dates, I assume these Army Honor Roll Clasp holders should be counted with the 24. Panzer-Division despite the unit lacking the “Panzer” prefix. I would greatly appreciate any thoughts on the matter! Thanks!

Research Point: Based on the award dates, I assume these Army Honor Roll Clasp holders should be counted with the 24. Panzer-Division despite the unit lacking the “Panzer” prefix. I would greatly appreciate any thoughts on the matter! Thanks!

SOURCE: Scheibert.
Well spotted Shawn ! Always the trouble with the "Aufklärer".. :? :) (myself was one in the 80s)
I agree , based on the following arguments [source: Tessin] :

1) Aufkl.Abt 24 / 24. Inf.Div - originally formed in august 1939 - was a 4 Schwadronen divisional Aufklärungs-Abteilung since 01.04.1943 ; redesignated Divisions-Füsilier-Bataillon 24 on 14.10.1943 and then Div.Füs.Btl (AA) 24 [cavalry tradition] on 03.11.1943. -> no AA 24 in 1944 !
Pz.Aufkl.Abt 24 / 24. Pz.Div was formed april 1943 in France (5 Schwadronen) after Stalingrad.

2) 24. Pz.Div lists on [page 31] : listed, but with I./Pz.Gren.Rgt 26 :
German Cross in Gold
Wilke, Günther, 06.01.1945, Owm., I./Pz.Gren.Rgt. 26
That's a strong hint that he was a "24. Pz.Div man".

3) Second strong hint : this work
"...und die Aufklärer sind immer dabei...", Zur Geschichte der deutschen Panzeraufklärungstruppe, Hrsg. Cord Schwier, 1st ed. Munster 2001
is referring in a side-note on page 170 :
5 Honor Roll Clasps were awarded to Pz.AA 24 members, 2 of them to Unteroffiziere ; additional 3 to men who belonged to the Abteilung for a time.

The 24. Pz.Div EBS list on [page 31] has 3 recipients of Pz.AA 24 right now (1 Uffz)
Blume, Hermann, 00.00.1945, Rittm., Pz.Aufkl.Abt. 24
Neumann, Helmut, 15.02.1945, Owm., 3./Pz.Aufkl.Abt. 24
Schlaefereit, Heinz, 15.03.1945, Rittm., 3./Pz.Aufkl.Abt. 24
Adding the recipients in question to this list would nearly match the statement of the book -> there are 5 recipients now , 2 of them are Unteroffizier (Neumann and Magdsack / Wachtmeister and Oberwachtmeister) ; Wilke probably has to be regarded as one the men who did belong to the Abteilung for a time.

No primary source research but work with the huge amount of data we have already. Possible to rule out evident typos and small errors this way and especially in this case I think.

If there are no objections I will add the above 3 recipients to the 24. Pz.Div list on [page 31]

regards, Bernd
