Nice and interesting finding. I would have never noticed it !
So here what we have :

April, May, 1944, location unknown
WH ceremony
From left to right :
- unidentified WH general receiving the Schwertern
- Gen. d. Pz.Tr. Hermann Breith (48. Schw.)
- Obslt. d.R. Franz Bäke (49. Schw.)
- Gen. d. Pz.Tr. Walther K. Nehring (383. EL)
- Gen. d. Pz.Tr. Fridolin von Senger und Etterlin (439. EL)
- Gen.Major Hans Källner (392. EL)
- unidentified Heer officer (Gen.Major or Oberst) receiving the Eichenlaub : Kossmala, Mummert, Hohn, LorenzKarl or Bronsart von Schellendorf. It can't be Heinrich Voigtsberger since this one is already listed in the "After 09/12/1943" ceremony (see at the end of the 6th page of this thread).
- Obst. Hermann-Heinrich Behrend (421. EL)
- Obstlt. Josef Bregenzer (427. EL)
- Obstlt. Meinrad von Lauchert (396. EL)
- Major Otto Benzin (406. EL)
- Hptm. Helmut Kalbitz (366. EL)
- Hptm. Josef Rettemeier (425. EL)
- Fw. Walter Möse (390. EL) (might also be Uffz. d.R. Josef Karl (397. EL))

The 7th officer is very difficult to identify.
Thanks again.

the oakleaves were presented by Himmler (NOT Hitler !!!) in Trossingen(between Black Forest and Schwäbischer Alb) to:
Fritz-Rudolf Schultz (1970 - 1975 Wehrbeauftragter des Deutschen Bundestages),
Heinrich Busse (at last Oberst der Bundeswehr) and
Klaus von Bismarck (1961 - 1976 Intendant des WDR; 1977 - 1989 Präsident des Goethe-Instituts).

Also Otto Carius received the oakleaves by Himmler in January 1945. (Carius had been severiously wounded summer 1944).

Hi Oberstab,

So I assume this must be from the same ceremony then as the officers were very substantially the same and it was unmistakably the big writing desk and the tapestry from the Berghof, except
(1) you had it down as 04.04.44 and Denis had it as 26.03.44.
(2) In the color pic, there were 13 recipients. Denis's list only had 11. The two missing from Denis's list are Erich Walter and Gerhard Barkhorn.

I believe it was Paal's picture and a few ELT were misidentified. Except for the first and one blocked by Hitler, they were:
Baetcher? ( He had short but wavier hair)
Gerhard Barkhorn
Erich Walther
Kurt Buehligen
Hans Joachim Jabs
Bernard Jope
Reinhard Seiler
Erich Hartmann? hidden by Hitler
Horst Ademeit
Johannes Weiss
Fritz Petersen
Max Otto
Walter Krupinski

cheers
Freiherr

Hallo dear freiherr,

I found different dates for this event, most of them indeed confirming the 04.04.44.

BTW:
farest left is Werner Streib,
second from right: his name is Dr. Otte.

I know another pic (but I ould' t find this) from the Berghogf-terace showing Erich Walther and Barkhorn with most of the others.

Consequently this problem is also cleared now !!

Cheers
