Ernst von Cochenhausen???
Ernst von Cochenhausen???
I have this pic (can't remember the source) of Ernst (?) von Cochenhausen.
Did Ernst Cochenhausen exist? I only know of two:
1-Grllnt Conrad von Cochenhausen
2-Grl d Art Dr phil Friedrich von Cochenhausen
Is that an eagle on his cap? (it's not cap but I can't remember the exact word in english).
Any help appreciated.
Best regards.

Hi Juan Emmanuel
The officer is shown wearing a Schwedter Adler. This is a tradition badge which was bore by members of Kav.Rgt. 6 and then 3. Kav.Brigade (later renamed 3. Kav.Div.).
Here is an interesting URL for you :

How does it work?
Gerlach von Gaudecker Zuch wore the same "Schwedter Adler". He was mostly associated with Pz.Gr,Rgt. 33. Was he entitled to wear it until he left the qualified unit or was he entitled to wear it for life?
What unit did Ernst von Cochenhausen command in 1944?
Cheers
Freiherr

Hallo FANGIO, hallo Freiherr
Some supplements and corrections are necessary:
Hauptmann Ernst von Cochenhausen, Chef der 1. / Kradschützen-Bataillon 3 (3. Panzer-Division) received the German Cross in Gold on 23.01.1942.
In memory of the “Brandenburgisches Dragoner-Regiment” Nr. 2 the “Dragoner-Adler” becomes “Traditions-Abzeichen” for the 2. or 4. Schwadron of the Kavallerie-Regiment 6 and also for the Kradschützen-Bataillon 3.
The pic shows the “Schwedter” Adler of an Stabswachtmeister (im Regimentsstab) of the 2. or 4. Schwadron of the Kavallerie-Regiment 6.
Please pay attention:
Not Schwerter Adler (Schwert = sword) but SCHWEDTER Adler.
SCHWEDT is a town at the the german river Oder.
BTW:
the commander in the brigde-head Schwedt was SS-Obersturmbannführer d. R. Otto Skorzeny (31.01.1945 - 28.02.1945), the unit raised to a “Divisionskampfgruppe” on 07.02.1945 (15.000 men). There soldiers were hanged up on trees at the high-road, charged with the reproach of cowardliness, among them also the Kreisleiter and the commander of a Volkssturm-Bataillon from Königsberg. Skorzeny vindicated his doing so towards the fully frightened Generaloberst von Greim (Luftflotte 6) refering to a direct martial law to plenary power pretendedly imparted by Hitler himself. Bormann raged.
Closing remark:
Gerlach von Gaudecker-Zuch, Oberst since 01.07.1944, was at last commander of the fully motorized “Infanterie-Division z.V.“ (i.e. “zur Vergeltung”), the “Division Gaudecker”, according to Korpsbefehl on 17.04.1945 built out of the Armeekorps z.V. (“Armeekorps zur Vergeltung“, Kommandierender General SS-Obergruppenführer und General der Waffen-SS Dr.-Ing. Hans Kammler). The “Division Gaudecker” was since 22.04.1945 subordinated to the XXXXI. Panzerkorps (Holste) in the AOK 12 and capitulated arbitrarily on 01.05.1945 against the 29. US-Infanteriedivision (and General der Panzertruppe Wenck, CiC 12. Armee, raged).
Cheers
