Hi, Greetings from Bonn - Germany.

You have forgotten Konstantin Hierl, Freikorps Hierl 1919 Augsburg. with Detachements Schaaf, Detachement Probstmayr

„Vom Mil.

I read somewhere that Hasso von Manteuffel, the future general of panzer troops, also served in the Freikorps. According to Bradley et al., future Major General (MG) Hermann Leythaeuser was in Freikorps von Epp. Future Lt. Gen. Erwin Leister was in the Freikorps in 1919. Others included General of Artillery Emil Leeb (brother of the field marshal); LTG Alfred Kurz was in Freikorps Kurland (1919-20); MG Alfred Kuhnert, who later led the 26th Panzer Division; MG Kurt Kuehme (Pour le Merite holder) was in the Silesian Freikorps and fought in Poland and the Ruhr. Future Field Marshal Georg von Kuechler was "General Staff Officer, German Legion, Kurland," in December 1918. I am not sure, but wasn't that a Freikorps unit? MG Hans Kreppel (CO, 100th and 117th Jaeger Div.s) was in Freikorps von Epp.Fritz Krause, Rommel's artillery commander in Afrika, served in Freikorps in Silesia. MG Karl-Richard Kossmann was in the Freikorps. Lt. Gen. Wilhelm Kohler, 11th Lw Field Div commander, was a Freikorps man. And that is just part of "K."

General of Artillery Baron Rudolf von Roman, who commanded the 35th Infantry Division and XX Corps on the Eastern Front, was a member of Freikorps von Epp. He was severely wounded in the fighting in Munich. Lieutenant General Rudolf Habenicht, the commandant of Muenster, was also a Freikorps man. Major General Franz Haas, the chief of staff of the XX Corps (1942-43) under Roman, was also in Freikorps von Epp. He later was chief of staff to the German General representing OKW at Commando Supremo in Italy. General of Cavalry Gustav Harteneck, commander of the Cavalry Corps (1944-45) was a Freikorps veteran. LTG Franz Geiger, the railroad expert, was also in the Freikorps. He was chief engineer officer of Army Group Upper Rhine in early 1945. He fell into Russian hands at the end of the war and disappeared. LTG Heinz Furbach, the commander of the 331st Inf Div on the Eastern Front and MG Fritz Ebeing, commander of the 64th Inf Div on the Western Front, were also in the Freikorps in 1919. LTG Friedrich Dihm, who was on the staff of Army Group B under Rommel and Kluge, was in Freikorps Landsberg in 1919. Come to think of it, Eduard Dietl, a future colonel general and commander of the 20th Mountain Army in Russia and Norway, was in Freikorps von Epp in late 1918-early 1919. MG Johann-Hugo Dickmann, the commander of Recruiting Area Dortmund in the first three years of WWII, was with Freikorps Maercker. General of Panzer Troops Fridolin von Senger und Etterlin, commander of the 17th Panzer Division in the east and XIV Panzer Corps in Italy, was in the same Freikorps. If I think of some more or run across some more, I'll send them to you.

Sincerely,
Dr. Sandy Mitcham

SS Brigadfuhrer Johannes Bernhardt was involved with smuggling strategic materials through Spain from South America and his name is mentioned in connection with an organisation known as "Sofindus"
