hello Michael.
P.Stockert in his 4 Vol. reference work on the recipients of the Oakleaves to the K.C. gives only 1939 as promotion date to Leutnant. His rank was Oberleutnant when awarded the K.C. earned while still holding the rank of Leutnant with date of 4.Jul.1940.The promotion date to Hptm. is listed as 1.Apr.1942. It appears that his last assignment was that of "Ic" (Intelligence officer) of Heeresgr. Sued.
