Who is ?
Oberstleutnant first name ? Baumungk , Kdr. III./Pz.Rgt. "GD"

Tracing down his first name and where he came from I found the following data. Can anyone confirm my hypothesis that this is one and the same man and the later OTL Baumungk ?

Pre 1939 / 1939 - ??

France 1940 : Oberleutnant Baumunk , Chef 5./Pz.Rgt. 7 / 10. Pz.Div.
http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/Gli ... er/PR7.htm

"Barbarossa" , 1941 : ??

edit :
Kdr. FEB 140 / 22. Pz.Div. 00.00.42- 00.07.42
[formed in Jan 1942 in Landau/Pfalz ; transfered later to the Krim]

German Cross in Gold (per Scheibert)
Baumunk, Georg, 12.02.1943, Hauptmann, II./Pz.Rgt. 204 / 22. Pz.Div.

in July 1943 (temporary) Führer of Pz.Abt. 52 : two variants per this thread
On 52nd Abteilung, CPT Georg Baumunk commanded from 6-24 July 43, but he relieved the initial commander
10.07.43 Hptm. Baumunk was appointed Führer of Pz.Abt. 52
...
22.07.43 Rittmeister von Sivers returns to take over command of Pz.Abt. 52

1 August 1943 - 1 April 1944 Kdr. s.Pz.Jäg.Abt. 653 (ex StuG.Abt. 197) : Hptm / Major
http://www.die-sturmartillerie.com/197.htm - the spelling here Baumungk !
http://www.ordersofbattle.darkscape.net ... l/653.html - Baumunk

and then in April 1944 ( 25 ) taking over the "GD" Tiger Abt.

Was there a insecurity about the spelling of his name - the bit unusual "g" or not ??

regards
Bernd

Thanks, Gerrit and Jan-Hendrik !

So, once, the "g" somehow found the way into the Tiger literature primarily I think.

Gerrit,
if you are able and you would like to add anything about the career of this officer this is very much welcome here. In the context of the III./Pz.Rgt. "GD" command roster I would be interested especially about the time around April 1st 1944, when he apparently left command of Schwere Panzerjäger-Abteilung 653 and took over command of the Tiger-Abteilung in April ( 25. ?).

Best regards
Bernd :D

I´am sorry, but Baumunk died in 1974, so it is quiet difficult to get some information. I can try to contact his wife, but it will take some time.

Now I'm confuse... Because on the book "Panzertruppen" by François de Lannoy & Josef Charita above, it's clearly said that the man is Gerhard Willing, Kommandeur of schw. Pz.Abt. 506... 8O

Best wishes
