There seems to be two styles of this award, One with a Star in the center, the other with a Cross in the center.
The cross version was awarded from March 26th, 1883 until May 9th, 1943 and the star version form May 9th, 1943 up till now.

One more. Oberst (Generalmajor) Gerhrad MÜLLER is displaying the Italian Army Silver Bravery Medal (Medaglia d’Argento al Valore Militare) in his buttonhole.

Kind regards,

Gregg.
Nice one. When did he receive this?

Incidentally, not bad for an amputee to receive the silver medal for valor. ;)
The enemy had superiority in numbers, his tanks were more heavily armoured, they had larger calibre guns with nearly twice the effective range of ours, and their telescopes were superior. 5 RTR 19/11/41

Picture of Georg Briel receiving his Italian Silver Medal. This is an original photo which I recently purchased for my collection.

Nice picture. Italian general handing out the Medaglia d'Argento al Valore was a Generale di Brigata. Would the back of picture say who he was?

Cheers

Elwyn. Sorry for late response about the Italian General giving an award to Georg Briel. I haven't been on here for a long time. Sorry, the back of the picture only has 'Briel' written on it.

Is this the ribbon of Medaglia d'Argento al Valore Militare he is wearing (Hans-Levin von Barby)?

Interesting. He had run two patrols out of Salamis with 12. Flotille (I think?) at that time, but no sinkings. Wonder what he got it for.

Did the Germans not wear the ribbon bar ribbon for this medal on their own bars? They could have uses a long service ribbon which was also blue, or a blue Prussian ribbon. Rommel wore the medal as an Italian "single with star."
