Oberst Freiherr von Süßkind-Schwendi

#1

Post by Stauffenberg II » 27 Aug 2005, 18:46

Hi!

Following the ugly GE tradition to give no first names I have a problem with an Oberst Freiherr von Süßkind-Schwendi. I have found out that Hugo was Oberst i. G..

But there were two: Hugo and Max-Theodor

Who was the one leading the reduced Abwehr Dept. in the OKW in 1944. Anymore data on him if so please? How long did he lead the Dept. because in 1945 there is already a Chief of Staff Wehrkreis I called Freiherr von Süßkind-Schwendi.

Best!

Jürgen

von SÜßKIND-SCHWENDI, Hugo Freiherr.
17.08.43 Oberst i.G., appointed Ic/AO Heeresgruppe Nord.
08.44 Oberst i.G., Chef OKW/WFSt/Ic.

That's all I have.

Hi gentlemen!

Thank you very much for your help.

I am referring to an excellent post made by Qvist:
http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... krummacher

He is stating that there was an Intelligence-/Counter-Intelligence Dept. subordinated to the WFSt, called Abt. für Frontaufklärung und Truppenabwehr. My guess is that this department was responsible for frontline tasks not taken over by the RSHA.
Abteilung für Frontaufklärung und Truppenabwehr (von Süszkind-Schwendi) (Formerly Amt Abwehr)
Best regards!

Jürgen

PS: Thanks for the bonus pic Harmel!

Hugo was Chef des Stabes in der Festung Königsberg 1945. If you want more info on him, I corresponded with him many years ago so drop me a line.

If you can read German, you might want to look at 'So fiel Königsberg' by Otto Lasch.
