Oberstleutnant i.G. Dietrich Moll

Does anyone have any information on Dietrich Moll, the Ia of the 18. Volksgrenadier-Division in the Battle of the Bulge, other than that found in Christian Zweng's "Die Dienstlaufbahnen der Offiziere des Generalstabes des deutschen Heeres, 1935-1945"? I would be particularly interested in his post-war career and his date/place of death, as well as where he was born, anything about his personality, etc.

Thank you in advance for any help!

Sincerely,
Sandy

Dr. Mitcham,

You might be aware of this study, but it could be of interest. Oberstleutnant i.G. Dietrich Moll took part in the project sponsored by the U.S. Army Europe Historical Division to record as much useful military information as possible from their former enemies by writing a study titled “18th Volks Grenadier Division (1 Sep 1944 – 25 Jan 1945)”. This study is numbered MS # B-688, is 116 pages long and contains 3 illustrations. The USAREUR Historical Division Guide notes this study is “Of tactical and technical interest.” Perhaps you might aquire a copy from NARA.

RE your earlier post, Generalmajor Wilhelm Viebig also took part in the USAREUR Historical Division project and wrote two studies:

“277th Volks Grenadier Division (Nov 1944 – Jan 1945)” (MS # B-273)

“277th Infantry Division (13 Aug – 8 Sep 1944)” (MS # B-610)

Best regards,
Shawn

Thanks, Shawn.

I have acquired copies of Moll's studies, which is why I am interested in him in particular. I am finished a book on the Battle of the Bulge, in which his writings will be used prominently, but I don't know much about the man or what happened to him after 1946. If you can think of anything, it would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
Sandy

Gentlemen,

I wonder if Dietrich Moll was related to Oberst Josef Moll who years later became Generalleutnant in the Bundeswehr post-World War II?

Sincerely,

Edward
