Volkmann or Richthofen?

#1

Post by FANGIO » 21 Sep 2005, 20:10

Pic posted by "Ignasi" from http://wwwsegundaguerr.superforos.com/v ... 5&start=15
In that post Ignasi says it's Volkmann, but I'm not 100% sure. Could he be Wolfram von Richthofen or am I wrong and it is indeed Volkmann?
General Kindelan is also in the picture (first from left).
Anyone recognizes any other officer?

Yes, Volkmann for sure.

Does anyone think that the man in sunglasses could be evntual Gen.d.Fl./Eichenlaubträger Hans Seidemann, Chef des Stabes of the Legion Condor? See http://www.geocities.com/~orion47/WEHRM ... _HANS.html for photos/biography.

No way. The guy on this pic wears the stars of full Colonel, whereas Seidemann was promoted to Oberstleutnant on June 1 st, 1939. The Spanish Civil War ended on April 1 st, 1939.
The General with Kindelan is Volkmann (100 %)

I believe that the general reffered to is the Spanish general Alfredo Kindelán Duany (1879-1962). CinC nationalistic air force.

OK, miocid, I stand corrected. My knowledge of Legion Condor rank insignia is somewhat nonexistent.

I believe the officer in the sunglasses is Hermann Plocher.

Gareth: I think you may be right with Plocher. What do you think gentlemen?

It doe´n´t match the date Plocher was promoted to Oberst with the date the picture was taken. Plocher was promoted to Oberst on August 1 st , 1940, whereas , once again, the guy with sun glasses is an Oberst ( he wears three 8 point stars). Volkmann handed over the command of the Legion Condor to von Richthofen in November 1938.

Is it not at all possible he was promoted Oberst in the Spanish National Army? It's definately Plocher.

Hi!

One of the Christmas presents I received was a book about the "von Thoma´s men " in the spanish civil war; where it is stated that the german personnel was promoted one position higher wnen they arrived in Spain. That´s why PLOCHER shows the three 8 point stars of a full colonel.
Happy new year!
