Is that the Knight's Cross he received as a reward for murdering unarmed civilians 2 weeks after the occupation of Crete had been completed?

Botha,

No.

Peter H wrote on page 1 of this thread :
Trebes' involvement in punitive actions in Crete in June 1941 is also discussed here:

http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... 90#1123490
The link of the above quote leads to a thread called "Fallschirmjägers and warcrimes" !
In that thread Peter H wrote also this :
Nick

Trebes was born in 1916 making him 28 at his time of death. He was awarded the Knight's Cross in July 1941 for his leadership in the assault on Hill 107 at Crete.Hitler personally bestowed him with the honour as he was one of a group of 18 FJs that subsequently were brought before Hitler to receive their awards.

He commanded III/FJR6 in Normandy in 1944,killed by strafing Allied aircraft on the 29th July 1944.

Regards
Peter
Hope this is a possible answer to your rethorical question. Both sides of the medal are named. Are in this forum.
If you allow I would give you a hint. If you would like to go on with the one or the other side of the medal, read a bit first.

Kind regards
Bernd

Actually, in this picture he is ordering the execution of unarmed Cretan civilians and this was the first mass execution of this kind in WWII. This is not something that anybody should be proud of!
