Trebes was born in 1916 making him 28 at his time of death. He was awarded the Knight's Cross in July 1941 for his leadership in the assault on Hill 107 at Crete.Hitler personally bestowed him with the honour as he was one of a group of 18 FJs that subsequently were brought before Hitler to receive their awards.
He commanded III/FJR6 in Normandy in 1944,killed by strafing Allied aircraft on the 29th July 1944.
