Pilot Badge with Diamonds Recipients
Re: Pilot Badge with Diamonds Recipients
Dieter,
I am sorry but you are wrong. You and everyone know that according to regulations, General Max Mohr could not wear the badge in that manner above the EK I and KVK I unless it was the diamonds award which it is. It clearly shows the P/O Badge in Gold with Diamonds being worn on the center of the left breast pocket above other awards! I will email the pic to another moderator and have him upload it for you to see!

Re: Pilot Badge with Diamonds Recipients
In the photos above it is quite obvious that General Max Mohr is NOT wearing a Diamond studded badge. The badge is definitely NOT with diamonds. in regards to the comment about regulations -- high ranking officers always seemed to defy the regs and wore badges etc any way they wanted. And the photo just above does NOT show a Slovakian general wearing a diamond studded badge either. This is quite evident with the size of the wings in question. The same goes for the photos of Mohr as well. Hence neither man is a recipient of this rare badge. Sorry.

Re: Pilot Badge with Diamonds Recipients
I have not been able to let go of the unidentified French officer behind D'Astier in the photo posted by Mark on the previous page (http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... 9#p1871809)
While the officer may still be René Marie Yves Louis d’Arnaud de Vitrolles and he may still be a recipient as the rest of the members of the French party, but while searching for verification of this I stumbled upon another most likely recipient.
The pilot, who flew Vuillemin and his delegation to Germany in the Amiot 340 prototype, record holder commandant Jules Maurice Rossi 1901-1966, and he writes in his memoirs about the trip:
And since the rest of the French party, except Arnaud de Vitrolles, have been verified as holders of the badge with diamonds, I would think it most likely that Rossi got it with diamonds as well.
I should note that all contemporary French sources relates to Vuillemin's bagde simply refers to it as plainly as "insigne de pilote allemand" and not "insigne de pilote avac briliants allemand", so it is not possible to rule Rossi out simply because he only refers to it as insigne de pilote allemand
.

Steen:
Excellent observations. I would put Jules Maurice Rossi into the possible category. Your comment about the lack of the word "diamonds" is very telling as the award document given to Mussolini for the Diamonds Badge was also missing the word "Diamonds". So it is very possible that Rossi is referring to the diamonds badge even though the word is not used.

Re: Pilot Badge with Diamonds Recipients
It does not appear to be a Bulgarian recipient as the badge itself does not have the correct wings and the swastika does not sparkle. Too blurry to be sure but I would say just a standard badge.

This photo of Graf is dated Sept 1943. I don't know what date he was awarded the diamond pilot badge, but I assume he is wearing it here. Note that he has it positioned above his Iron Cross.

Did Generalleutnant Heinz Scheurlen receive this award?
