Post by FANGIO » 03 Mar 2006, 22:42

Please, could anybody provide good quality pics of the following Officers that were part of the 6. .Armee in Stalingrad? I’ve been searching on the internet (several times) but I can’t find good portraits of them, some seem to be impossible to find.
There’s also some info to be confirmed. Any help (and corrections) is much appreciated.

-GM Erich MAGNUS
-Grl (?) Ernst LEYSER

-GL Arthur SCHMIDT
-Obstlt i. G. Hans ELCHLEPP (Ia)
-Mj ????? von KUSNOWSKI (Ib)
-Obstlt ????? NIEMEYER (Ic)
-GM Ulrich VASSOLL (Artillerie Commander?)

I think the RKT on the left in Harmel's third photo is Leyser.

Great pics, Alex!!!!
Yes that was v Leyser on the left. Obst Hans Günther van Hooven played an active part in the Bund Deutscher Offiziere after capitulation.
Alex, do you think http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/forums/ ... 971&page=8 shows v. Leyser (definitely) and v. Lenski?

Cheers
Freiherr

8O 8O 8O WOW!!! Maestros!
OUTSTANDING pics, info and corrections, thank you very much everybody, I really appreciate your help.
Yes, sir! Very nice pics indeed.

Dieter, I have a doubt regarding Elchlepp, take a look here, according to this site (the picture is the same one you posted) the man you say is Elschlepp is identified as Obst. i. G. Günther Breithaupt:
http://www.stalingrad.net (go to "Enter the Headquartes of AOK 6" and then "The 21 Ia Officers trapped in the Stalingrad pocket"; scroll down and you'll see the same pic). Is this site right or wrong about Breithaupt?

Best regards,
FANGIO

Fangio,
I don' t know the correct answer. My information (it is Elchlepp) is congruent with the same pic in Paul Carell "Der Russlandkrieg - Fotografiert von Soldaten",
Ullstein Frankfurt/M. / Berlin 1967, page 194.

OK Dieter, thanks again. Taking a look at my archives I found out a small version of the pic you posted and I have this man identified as Elchlepp too, so I guess it must be a mistake of that site.
Some pics are still left, hope somebody else can post any of those missing.
Best,
FANGIO
