Re: German snipers and sharpshooters
Hi all, asked a question and was referred here, do any of you have any wartime photos of snipers with rifles that have been wrapped and camouflaged, or an idea what they could have done, I'm thinking of doing it with a trouser leg tied round with string.
Any help will be much appreciated
Tom.

Re: German snipers and sharpshooters
Just stumbled upon two "new" (to me at least) snipers:
Ogfr. Willi Pfirmann of 2./Gren.Rgt. 689 (DKIG on 28th April 1944) for 178 confirmed kills.
Gfr. Georg Burdinski of 5./Gren.Rgt. 689 (DKIG on 28th April 1944) for 169 confirmed kills.

Re: German snipers and sharpshooters
Gentlemen,
There had to be way over 100 German snipers to score over 100 confirmed kills over enemy soldiers! That's the very first time that I ever heard of Willi Pfirmann and his big amount of kills.
Sincerely,
Edward L. Hsiao

Re: German snipers and sharpshooters
Hello,
here's a newspaper report about an Unteroffizier Georg Kleber who received the Golden Sniper Patch personally from Heinrich Himmler. From September 1943 to early January 1945 he'd scored 111 hits. Since counting for the sniper patch started only on September 1st, 1944 the other kills were obviously achieved before that date.
Source: Vorarlberger Tagblatt of Feb. 10th, 1945; 26. Jahrgang; Folge 35; p.3
http://www.anno.onb.ac.at/cgi-content/a ... =3&zoom=33
The notice also mentions Kleber received the Honour Roll Clasp but that appears to be a misunderstanding. The Honour Roll Clasp didn't depend on being mentioned in the Wehrmachtsbericht.
It's possible Georg Kleber is identical to this man from Andelsbuch (Vorarlberg): http://www.trauerhilfe.at/todesanzeigen ... ner/49126/
Best regards
Torsten
